      Hi

Since the aunt gave each of them them same amount of money, their difference is the same.We call this'Constant Difference'.
In this case,we can solve with that method easily.
Difference between to of them at first-180 -55=125
      1Unit-125,as the differnce is constant.
      2Unit-125*2=250
Money gave to each of them-250-180=70(ANS)
      Cheers

      Help with this question,

Dawei has $180 and Yawen has $55. After their aunt gave each of them an equal amount of money, Dawei had twice as much money as Yawen. How much money did their aunt give to each of them?
Need help, need it by today![/quote]

Charsen or Tianzhu, Mrs Ang has a packet of ice cream sticks for her activity sticks for an activity in her Art lesson. If she gives each pupil 10 ice cream sticks, she will have 10 ice cream sticks left. If she gives each pupil 8 ice- cream sticks, she will have 80 ice cream sticks left. How many ice cream sticks are there in the packet?

            And this question too,

Patrick, Devi and Jiamin each have the same number of beads. How many beads must Devi give to Patrick and Jiamin so that Patrick has 20 beads more than Devi and Jiamin has 4 fewer beads than Patrick?

                2DMommy:
                2) Mrs Tan and MRs Lee baked some cakes. 1/3 of Mrs Tan's cupcakes is equal to 1/2 of Mrs Lee's cupcakes. If Mrs Tan packed 1/3 of her cupcakes equally into 11 boxes, she would also have 2 cupcakes remaining. The number of cupcakes in one of Mrs Tan's box is 6 more than one of Mrs Lee's box.

                a) What percentage of the total cupcakes baked are Mrs Tan's ?
                b) Given the total cupcakes baked were between 250 and 300, how many cupcakes did each of them bake ?
                Hi

Part a should not pose too much problem for students.

percentage of the total cupcakes baked by Mrs Tan's ------3/5*100% ------ 60%

For part b, please confirm sentence highlighted in pink.

I get an answer of 285 but this is based on “The number of cupcakes in one of Mrs Lee's box is 6 more than one of Mrs Tan's box.”

                Best wishes

                  Hi girl

                  80 – 10 ------ 70

                  10 – 8 ------ 2

                  Number of pupils ------- 70/2 ------- 35

                  Number of ice cream sticks ------- 35*10 + 10 ------ 360

                  or 35*8 + 80 ------ 360

                  Best wishes

Solving this by Gap and Diff:

                    Gap : 80 – 10 =70
                    Diff : 10-8=2
                    No. of pupils --> 70/2 =35
                    Using case 1,
No. of sweets Mrs Ang has --> (35x10)+10=360sticks (ans)

                      Hi

I did a quick check using MD.

Try it out first, the answer is 12.
