      Can someone pls help with this question:

      Leslie bought some sweets and gave 2/3 of it to Alan. Alan bought some chocolates and gave 2/3 of it to Leslie. Leslie ate 6 chocolates and Alan ate 6 sweets. The ratio of Leslie's chocolates to sweets became 2:1 and the ratio of Alan's chocolates to sweets became 4:5. How many sweets did Leslie buy?

      Thanks

      after Leslie gave 2/3 of the sweets to Alan and Alan gave 2/3 of the chocolates to Leslie,
      Leslie had 2/3 of the chocolates and 1/3 of the sweets
      Alan had 1/3 of chocolates and 2/3 of the sweets

      Leslie's chocolates : sweets --> 2u + 6 : 1u
      Alan's chocolates : sweets --> 1u + 3 : 2u

      After Alan ate 6 sweets,
      Alan's chocolates : sweets
      --> 1u + 3 : 2u - 6
      = 4 : 5

      cross-multiply/equalize:
      5u + 15 = 8u - 24
      1u --> 13

      Number of sweets Leslie bought --> 3u --> 39

      cheers.

      :thankyou:

        John, Raj and Peter were hired to paint a house. Together, they can finish the job in an hour. John and Raj can finish the job in 1 hr 15 min.
        Raj and Peter can finish the job in 1hr 40min.
        How long will Raj take to finish the same job by himself?

          Help me with this question please?

          Two builders Alan and bob are hired to construct fences. Alan would take 10 days to complete the job while Bob needs 15 days for it. If they were to work together,it is known that each of them will construct 20% less fences per day.
          Find the fewest number of days that the builders need to work together so that the fence can be constructed in exactly 8 days.

            Hi

            This question is quite similar to a question from PSLE 2009.

            You may use MD or UP.

            Hope this helps.

            Best wishes

            Hi, I am new to this forum. Would appreciate if someone could help me with the followings:

            1) A fruiterer had the same number of apples, pears and lemons at first. After 98 lemons, some apples and pears were sold, there were 297 fruits left. There were twice as many apples as pears left. The number of lemons left was 13 fewer than the number of apples left. How many pears were sold?

            2) Anna and Ben take 9 days to complete a jigsaw puzzle. Ben and Celine take 3 days to complete the same jigsaw puzzle. When Celine partners with Dennis, they take 4 days to complete the jigsaw puzzle. How many days will Anna and Dennis take to complete 2 such jigsaw puzzles?

            3) In a car park, there are thrice as many cars as vans. The number of cars is twice the number of motorcycles. The total number of wheels these vehicles have is 4598.

            a) How many cars are parked at the car park?
            b) If 1/3 of the motorcycles left the car park, how many vehicles are left in the car park?

            4) On Teachers' Day, a florist sold thrice as many roses as orchids and collected $703 in total. She collected $437 more for the roses than the orchids. Given that a stalk of rose cost $1.50 more than a stalk of orchid, find the cost of a stalk of orchid.

            Thanks.
