            Hi, can someone please help:

Mrs Tan had 130 apples and oranges. After she sold 2/3 of the apples and 2/5 of the oranges, she had 36 more apples than oranges left. How many fruits had she left in all?

            Can someone please help.
            Thank you.

            Hi,

Kindly help me with this question

              1) Gerald had 60 sweets more than Herlina. After eating half of what they had, the ratio of the number of Gerald’s sweets to the number of Herlina’s sweets became 3:2.
              a) How many sweets did Gerald eat?
              b) Gerald gave Herlina some sweets and the ratio became 8:7. How many sweets did Gerald give Herlina?

              Thank you

Hi superksmum, and all mummies out there,

                    Happy Mother's Day!

                    =

One possible method, copied from the book \"Advanced Model Method\" which you can browse through at any Popular Book store.

Look at the Denominators, 3 and 5.
                    The Denominators are your friends.
P6 pupils need all the friends they can get.

Let there be 3 Bags of apples.
Let there be 5 Boxes of oranges.

                    3 Bags + 5 Boxes = 130 fruits (apples/oranges)
(Mrs Tan had 130 apples and oranges)

She sold 2 Bags of apples.
She sold 2 Boxes of oranges.

She had 1 Bag of apples left.
She had 3 Boxes of oranges left.

                    1 Bag = 3 Boxes - 36 fruits
(she had 36 more oranges than apples left)

                    3 Bags + 5 Boxes = 130 fruits (apples/oranges)
                    3 Bags = 130 fruits - 5 Boxes ........... (Row 1)

                    1 Bag = 3 Boxes - 36 fruits
                    (x 3)
                    3 Bags = 9 Boxes - 108 fruits .............(Row 2)

                    Row 2 = Row 1
                    3 Bags = 3 Bags

                    3 Bags = 9 Boxes - 108 fruits = 3 Bags = 130 fruits - 5 Boxes

                    9 Boxes - 108 fruits = 130 fruits - 5 Boxes

                    14 Boxes - 108 fruits = 130 fruits

                    14 Boxes = 238 fruits

                    1 Box = 17 fruits

                    5 Boxes = 85 fruits (oranges)

                    Can you work from here?

                    Cheers

In Math, there is more than one method to solve a question. How does one know which method to use?
