:spank: Oh no! I think I am starting to feel the guilt. I'm not thrifty by nature. I need to reflect 😒 😒 😒

I spend but I save too. So far this month, I spent $400 on personal expenses (meals/skincare/transport). Does it look too much by thrifty standards? Can share saving tips?
Actually I don't keep track of my personal expenses at all. My method is to think through first before buying anything.

I signed a facial package recently. Price okay, location okay. And I do need one. So to me, that's fine since I've thought it through carefully (& negotiated hard) before signing.

For meals, I only go restaurants with dh. Still add up to a lot since quite frequent so I tried to use discount cards whenever possible. With kids, we only go food court or food centers. Too expensive to dine at restaurants if bring kids along. For kids I only bring them to those with student meals.

Transport wise, I don't take taxi. Will take public transport if not driving. And look out for cheapest parking if possible. But then I'm lazy if need walk too far... sigh these conflicting traits of mine πŸ˜“

Sleepy,
Me same,I don't keep track of my spending. But I think twice b4 buying. For grocery such as tissue papers,i buy during offer. While for food such as vege,fish,meat,etc....i just buy it,coz i don't hv time to shop ard n compare price.

I don't go for facial or hair dye/treatment.Very lazy...i rather spend time exercise n invest on good beauty products n eat fruits regularly. My mum has good skin n complexion, she doesn't go facial. She eats lot of spices, vege n fruits, thus, i follow her, won't go wrong. She is 70+,still looks vibrant.

life is short...muz find a balance btw $ spends on personal happiness n savings. My uncle very rich but bedridden for 20+yrs,he doesn't hv the chance to enjoy the fruit of his hardwork.

Imami:
I have severe ε±ζœΊζ„Ÿ, even more so after I quit my job and our household income reduced by half. Always feel savings growing at snow snail speed & insufficient for our retirement. Dh used to be easily satisfied. If got 6 months reserve he would be happy while I look at the same amount & totally freak out. But I think my ε±ζœΊζ„Ÿ is contagious so he kind of see my point after all these years

Not investing at all at this point. I think everything is overpriced.

Do u think this ε±ζœΊζ„Ÿ has got something to do with you being a Sahm? For me, it certainly is! I tried being a Sahm for a short period before. During that period, I was super thrifty (to begin with, I am quite thrifty by nature. Almost Everything I spend must have value). I would walk to the neighbourhood central for grocery shopping just so that I save less than $2 on two way bus fare. My hubby thought I must be nuts :rotflmao:

Always got ε±ζœΊζ„Ÿ ever since I was a child because I kept hearing my mum said money not enough. I dare not burden my parents with unnecessary expenses so I kind of got used to pondering very hard first before buying anything ever since I was a child and this habit carried into adulthood.

Dh always said I very 'meow' one, very hard to get clearance from me to buy (unnecessary) stuff he wants. Sometimes he would complain that he can't even spend his own money freely like upgrading his golf set, playing golf at full price (because I expect him to utilise credit card tie up price when playing golf but those need to book way in advance hence less flexible)

Yes, I think we are alike in the thinking 'spend must have value' πŸ˜‰

I tried to save on the big ticket items only because I do have another trait which is 'nua'. This laziness trait is much much more prominent than my 'meow' trait so I confirm too lazy to walk a distance to save money or compare price at different super markets.
I will buy most groceries from ntuc although I make sure I got credit card discount and ntuc membership rebates points. Old habit
The spend must have value theory is so like my DH.

I think through first also. At times I take so long to think that the item becomes no longer available when I have finally decided.
Kids do not eat a lot so if I bring them along, they share my food. Usually just bring them to food courts only. They can't appreciate good food anyway πŸ˜‰
Yesterday when I told DH I'm heading to town with my best friend. Guess what he told me. His response: remember do not buy any branded bags. After that he added, best if do not buy anymore clothes and bags :spank:
The only branded items I have is a Kate spade bag and a Kate spade wallet. My DH is so thrifty :?:

I think it's okay to buy clothes & bags as long it's value for money :boogie:

For myself, I refused to buy clothes at nett price. Somehow I feel riped off if I have to pay nett price. Of course got exception. The other day we bought MIL to shop. MIL hardly shops & also not as easy to find designs she likes. So it's more important to me that she found something she really likes πŸ˜‰

But I think dh abit εΏƒη–Ό that I'm so thrifty on myself since I will never pay nett price for my own clothes. I only shop during sales & always target my favourite boutiques whenever there's a generous 50% off especially during GSS. I like value for money. Still look very nice wah and I only paid half price, why not? I always feel happy with my loot.

Between dh & I, I'm the more thrifty one. He likes to buy things for me when he's on business trips because he knows I won't frown if they are value for money & these are things I won't usually buy for myself. He bought me a dozen handbags/purses/wistlets. All bought at value since much cheaper to buy in the country itself.

I need to buy things at discount then feel more shiok using them. I don't like the riped off after taste thus can never bring myself to pay nett price. Maybe it's an OCD πŸ˜†

Heyya all my fellow SAHMies. How has the holidays been for ya? To mark the beginning of the holidays, I brought my brood of 4 to watch Jack The Giant Slayer show last Friday after the girls returned from supplementary lessons. They loved the surprise. :please:

Brought them to Wendy's for a quick bite followed by some crackers and suweeet popcorn for in-theatre snacking. The boys slept a bit in between the show but we had quite a peaceful time watching the show. The theatre wasn't packed so the aircon was nicely cooling.. an ease from the super hot weather these days.. some more we don't have aircon at our place.. so it was a nice reprieve.

Already cooked dinner and cleaned the house a bit so was free the whole evening to spend time watching movie with hubs after the children went to bed.

Homework all finished by Monday evening so we went for a swim with gramps yesterday. The house is spick and span now and meeting hubs later after DD1's violin exam at Yamaha.

CA1 all over and done with and their results were as expected as we knew how much effort each of them put in. PTC was done by hubs cos he wanted to save me and the boys trouble tagging along and there were some surprise news from the teachers about them. They each got their  from their Daddy.. I am glad he shares the loving and the wrangling of child raising, with me.

How about you ladies? Any special plans or just staying home this week?

I bought 90% of my clothes when there was a generous discount. The rest I bought them at nett price cos I like the designs too much. I have 3 wardrobe full of clothes. DH has only 1. He always says that if I do not do laundry for a month, I will still have clothes to wear while he has to go naked :yikes:

My DH doesn't buy gifts for me often. I'm not a gift person so doesn't matter to me also. I prefer hugs to gifts. I have about 5 bags, mostly from Charles and keith. I like variety so I can't stick to one bag. Shoes wise I love shoes from pazzion, Pedro and pretty fit.

Sometimes I also disagree when DH wants to buy his own IT stuff so he turns around and stop me from making additional purchases.

He is only against excessive shopping. But facials, massage and gym membership, he is generous with me.

I bought myself a new pair of sunglasses from Charles and Keith today. DH sat on my old pair few weeks ago. It broke under his firm butt πŸ˜† I also saw a coach leather wallet today. Wanted to buy for DH but I think he will scold me instead.
