We hold our funds in common from the time we married, with an upper cap beyond which we need to consult. And so, no, I don't get pocket money - I just spend what I need/want. But I'm not much of a shopper or spender.

What about LASIK? Do you think can correct shortsightness and longsightedness? Wonder what are the pros and cons of LASIK.

I get a fixed monthly sum for items that need to be paid in cash and also for allowance to my parents, balance is mine to save. I also have credit cards for other expenses like groceries from supermarket, shopping, etc. DH's income goes into joint account used to pay other bills but I don't touch this account.

I've been wearing progressive lenses for over 5 yrs now. You look through the lower portion to see near, and the upper portion to see far. It works quite intuitively for me and I didn't really suffer any disorientation etc during the initial days. I have a separate pair of glasses for computer use otherwise my neck aches from lifting my head to look out the lower portion.

My husband tried progressive lenses but couldn't get used to them, not sure why. He had Lasik done in his early 40s, but kind of regrets it as his astigmatism was not 100% corrected (they don't guarantee that it will be) and he started getting presbyopia at the same time. He had to use reading glasses initially, then after tha first year or so, his myopia increased slightly which compensates for the presbyopia. Now he doesn't need reading glasses again, but sometimes has blurry vision due to dryness and myopia/astigmatism. His advice is to do Lasik when young enough to enjoy the benefits longer before presbyopia sets in. I don't know if Lasik can deal with both myopia and presbyopia - my husband was given the option to correct one eye for each, but decided that it might be too confusing to cope with that.

I don't enjoy shopping as much as when I was working. Can't find justification or reason to buy when I want to buy something. Then have to consider whether there's space to keep the new stuff. :frustrated: I'm guilty of being in 1 set of t-shirt, shorts and slippers for the whole day. I'm usually in and out of the home and car, too lazy to change.

That's one of the things I liked about being a SAHM - no need to dress up! Now I have to think about getting office wear again because it's been 16 yrs since I had to wear that kind of clothes, and I'm no longer as young and slim, so I think it will be a headache. And I won't have money yet - I have to get clothes before I can start looking for a job. I haven't a single thing that is suitable for meeting prospective employers![/quote]Arghhh... I would suggest to get 2 outfits for interviews first. You can get the rest after you know whether your colleagues dress up or dress down. Good luck with the job search!

Thanks! Well, I never wore very high heels even when I was young and working, max. 1.5 inches. Yes, will get some basics first. But this is in the future - got to get back and settle the kids in school first. I probably won't start looking for a job till late in the year.

Hopefully, my eyesight does not worsen... :xedfingers: [/quote]You get used to the progressive lens. I'd rather not do Lasik. Correct already, then later degree worsen (eg. eye muscles even more lax?!) then how?

I leave my eyes as they are. Even spectacles are not perfect, so just live with it. Better than cut.

Do you also have myopia? If so, you can choose to correct one eye for myopia, and the other eye for presbyopia (called monovision, I think). Some people do that and can cope (I have a sil who has done this for many years), but I don't think I could. If you don't have myopia, you can correct for presbyopia, but then you would have to wear glasses to see distance, so that really doesn't help.
