DSA Appeal 2011

DSA should be scrapped. Just keep those DSA via CCAs will do.
It will resolve a lot of issues.

I agree with R3mom too. DSA applicants should be allowed to exercise their options after they receive their PSLE results, together with the S1 posting.
In today's DSA offer, once accepted, the school will take in the student as long as his PSLE score qualifies for express stream. If the change is made such that the choice is made only after PSLE results released, would the school be also given the option to take back the offer if the PSLE score is lower than their COP? I suppose we should explain to our children the reality of life: can't have the cake and eat it too!
I agree with you. My daughter was unsuccessful in DSA for her 1st choice but was made an offer from another school. We eventually did not accept the offer because we (parents and child) felt that she should wait and see if she could get into her 1st choice through PSLE results, even if it meant possibly not getting into either school. We are of the view that it is never too early for a child to learn to honour contracts, and accepting a CO is a contract. But all that agony in deliberating could have been avoided if we could have waited till after the PSLE results before deciding.slmkhoo:
In my view, MOE should re-look into the dsa process and timing. If DSA applicants are allowed to exercise their options after they receive their PSLE results, together with the S1 posting, then the issue of appeal will disappear.
The computer can be programmed for those with dsa CO to be posted first, then dsa WL to be posted second, with the qualification that the dsa school has to be listed as student's first choice (just like affiliated schools), before it proceeds to post the rest.
what do u think? -

But what if moe also decide that the result of DSA will be out after released of psle result how?

I think all parents and students know that we cannot have the best of both worlds. There are consequences to face once we signed on the dotted line on the CO. Even last year, there were many students whose score is one or two points above the COP of RI but because they have accepted the DSA offer from another school, they know they have no right to demand a place in RI. They can only APPEAL which means the schools can reject them. True enough, many were rejected except for those very high scorer.

I think if MOE decides to scrap off DSA, they have to communicate very clearly to the GEP parents during the briefing at P3. Any changes in these 3 years will definitely cause a lot of unhappiness and frustrations to the current parents whose child is in the program.DSA should be scrapped. Just keep those DSA via CCAs will do.
It will resolve a lot of issues.

I think if they scrap DSA, a lot of GEP parents would seriously reconsider putting their children in GEP liao.

Fully agreed. Who's to say that the co on hand is not the best choice?
All IP schools are very good including all top banded non-IP schools. MOE does not short-change u. Yr thinking that yr kids' dream schools are the best may or may not be right yrs down the road.
Who's to say that the co on hand is not the best choice?

I just thought GEP was a good programme to bring out her potential. The things I know now.
