Good luck to the p6 geppers. Make sure they study hard for the normal Chinese which will be used to compute the ave of the four subjects.
I am a bit confused. My ds is taking HCL but he is having CL SA1 this week and HCL SA1 next week. For oral and listening, there is only one. So, will there be two results in the report book (CL and HCL)? Is it only the CL result used to compute the average of the four subjects? If so, does it mean that HCL result is not important? -

You mean they won't use HCL at all ? -
Is it same as mainstream? For us with mainstream kids, our kids’ P6 results average is calculated based on 4 subjects including CL. HCL results are reflected along with corresponding Passed, Merit or Distinction grade and exclude from average calculation.
HCL does not have oral or listening compre. Those are for CL. As for importance of HCL, that depends on definition of importance. GEPpers will majority, if not all, go IP, and most kids in existing IPs take HCL. Thus to take HCL in pri school tends to ease in the HCL for sec school which is a leap from pri school HCL and a very huge jump from pri school CL. As to why majority takes HCL in IPs, the reason is if they clear it by Year 4 at O levels (although some IPs require min grade B3/B4), then no need to take Chinese in Year 5 and 6. -

I think HCL is important if you're applying to school like HCI. For example if both kids get the same marks for their mid-year, one has HCL the other don't, the one with HCL will have advantage over the other.PiggyLalala:

For p6 geppers sa1, they will take cl and hcl papers. The oral and listening compre is for cl. CL is one of the 4 core subjects used for tabulation of psle t- school. Hcl result will be in distinction 80& above, merit etc etc ...PiggyLalala:

In P5, they took only HCL test and the result was in the report book.8228:

yup… dsa … using cl to compute the average of 4 subjects which is good as students tend to do better in normal chinese

Hi 8228,
For DSA, submit p4 and p5 overall yr end results of EL,HCL,Maths and Sci. For p6 result, u submit them ct1+sa1 results of EL, CL, Maths and Sci. These results will be given in the p6 geppers report book. -
PiggyLalala & vlim :thankyou:
