my gal (K2) has been attending LSH for almost 2 years. LSH does not believe in spelling and this caused my gal does not know basic spelling. v diappointed with the system.

sean wife: there are many english words which are unable to decode using phonics so spelling becomes a kind of field for the children to go through the words at least for once.


I don't wish my children to enter primary school to get a big shock over a different environment followed by ting xie & spelling... I still believed that these words can be part of the word bank which will help them in the composition in near future. It's simply useless to say yet unable to write those words out hence in my case, lsh amk is nothing but only good location. Seeing that teachers do not give extra coaching for the weaker students (K2) is enough for me to say that's it :shock:

In my opinion; it does not mean you can spell 100 words at the end of K2 you will excel academically. My own sister who could not even spell her name at the end of K2 and a mediocre performer at primary school is now a lawyer in an int’l law firm who earns 20k a month at the age of 27. Life is not about how many words you can spell and being able to write at the age of 6. One must love to read cos only by reading widely comes writing. It is about being motivated and being a life long learner. Spelling also comes naturally if your read wide enough. Int’l Schools only has 4 words to 8 words spelling weekly. They still produce good speaker; presenter. My workplace; the young interns who do well are those that does not immerse totally in local system from young. Much better than our local system where academics is super; when having to present an idea to a big group; they get tongue tied and poor EQ.

Just how much math and science can we remember now that we are adults and how much we use it in our work place? Do we want our children not to even enjoy other things in life for the sake of academic pursuit? I guess no matter how hard our govt. tries to play down academics; parents is the ultimate cause to the paper chase

I agreed with what you have mentioned that our academic system that we are in some disadvantage where over-concentrate on academic, that’s why we are lose out in the social life skills such as communication and interaction with people.

Neverthless, we still must admit that we still have some advantage over other some countries. That’s why we cannot say that nowadays parents kiasuparents, it is the society and peer pressure that you would still want the best for the kids. That’s why you can see that parents still widely spread to let children take up those speech and drama, art and music etc.

all the hot-housing might produce a very bright P1 or P2 kid, but thereafter, I believe that self-motivation and genetics simply takes over.

I too agree that many outstanding people do not shine since young. In fact while growing up, these children take different paths using their own judgement & wisdom.


Still, spelling is still one of the ways of word bank not only for my children & also for myself. There is no end to learning :celebrate:

Headstart is one thing. Important areas are the happiness of our children cum whether their developments can take it or not. All these depend on the child's character, environment & parents' choices. Everything ought to be 2-way traffic, must listen to the child's saying at times.

I think that all parents want the best for their kids. We shall agreed that the headstart is important. Yet, this is the basis for the parents would want the best for their children. We are given a headstart although we know children got different stages of picking up the skills and learning process.


Yet, this is the only begining and when they went to Primary school, we would need to let go a bit and provide them the advice and guide as it go along.

I believed that most children went into the primary school and would have their own thinking and behaviour.

Any feedback at LSH at AMK hub, my sister wants to put her daughter there and she is not sure if it is good at preparing her for P1.
