      3Boys,

Have you ever thought about 'they' may be lost to society if they can only access to the textbook and hence cannot perform academically.

Once 'they' get into the wrong path and mix around with the 'pai kia', 'they' can no longer be brilliant sparks in the future.
Unless you want 'them' to spark in the secret society :yikes: , the police would have bad and hard time to crack them :scared:

Just thinking maybe there r some real GEP students out there, but not been discovered??

And my response to this would be, 'So what?'

It's not as if they are lost to society and can no longer be brilliant sparks in the future. The MOE is cool about this, it's the parents that are all worked up.

[/quote]You make it sound like GEP is the only route to a decent education and the rest who do not get into GEPs are delinquents in the making.

Even if one gets into GEP there is still a chance that they turn out to be pai kia. And fact is the majority do not get into GEP and of this majority, a majority turn out just fine.

Huh? Mainstream is pai-Kia and the future of SS? Think you're extrapolating too much here. Don't think my ds is potential SS warlord or druggie leh, hehe. Pls tell me I'm reading too much into what you're saying. :scratchhead:

As if GEP is a guarantee against being a pai-kiah. Since I was not GEP, I guess I am condemned to a life of gangsterism.

Where should I get my first tattoo?

You have read too much of the context out of proportion. I didn't even mention a single word of ' GEP'. No, this is not what I meant. I was saying that poor kid who can only access the maintainers textbook and nothing else. It is not possible for them to do well and they may get into the wrong path.

I reiterate here again, you need good teaching materials, competent teachers and small class size (so that teacher can attend to), then children can study independently and do well without any additional helps from either tuition or parents.

BTW, I do not even buy in the idea of GEP is a good route to a decent education at all in the very first place. I have seen some 'products' of the GEP before and I know what to expect from them.

Please don't put your words into my mouth le.

Since when did I mention that Mainstream is pai-Kia and the future of SS! 🤷

I heard that majority mainstreamers have tuition for their weak subjects (at least one) or parental helps and hence no tuition. I am referring to those with zero helps from teacher/parents/tuition but can only access to poor textbooks. They are the deprived group and may consistently perform poorly and may end up with mixing with the wrong gang.

You quoted mum03 and 3boys in your reply. They were talking about potential GEP kids going undiscovered. When you quoted them it would be reasonable to assume the 'they' you were talking about are the undiscovered potential GEP kids right?

In any case, I agree with you if you are talking about kids from disadvantaged families. But that is a different discussion.

Unfortunately, this is not my thinking. It looks like your thinking.

Please point out which sentence did I say or imply that 'GEP is a guarantee against being a pai-kiah'???
