MrsSeah:
how many classes are there in her P6 cohort?jedamum:
hm..when did your kids start knowing which sch they would like to go? peer influence?
My dd class started to talk about it in P4. Her friend and her aim is to go RGS or Dunman High. I told her to aim high is good, but must also be more realistic.
She is neither the Top 10 in her school cohort so going RGS or Dunman she must work double hard in P5 and P6.
Seeing the \"hard work\" she put, if she can go Nan Chiau, I am MORE than happy. Nan Chiau to her is more realistic. -

i think peers have a greater influence than parents -

your child PSLE this year ?tankee:
Just a fun poll.
Which Secondary School is your 2012 PSLE child aiming for?
and why that school?

nope. He is P3 this year.
In the spirit of kiasu parents, I should start my research now  :rotflmao: -
I’ve a P5, looking at Nan Chiau, Chung Cheng Main, TKGS.
For my P4, the wish is Victoria but… Anyway, hope he can at least make it to Maris Stella via DSA. Anything better is a bonus. -
For which sec sch to aim for, a lot of kids are influenced by peers, or parents, or \"hear say\" talk. Sometimes, they go after \"prestige\" without realising their own abilities or potential.
As parents, we should encourage them to aim high, but more importantly be realistic and within their capability and potential. We do not want to see them \"drowning\" :imdrowning: in sec sch and their self-esteem suffer :gloomy: . Neither do we want them to be \"mugging\" throughout their sec sch lives :?: and missed out enjoying the fun teenage years. Afterall, whatever sec sch the kid goes, ultimately it is dependent on his / her attitude. Most roads will still lead to Rome - those in IP / non IP schs still end up meeting one another in JC and uni / poly. -
MMM:
Parents may want to note that since last year, those kids who have accepted successful confirmed offer from DSA, they are committed to the offer and cannot back out and appeal to another school if they get better results in PSLE (unless they have very valid reason like unable to fulfil commitment to DSA sports due to injury).I've a P5, looking at Nan Chiau, Chung Cheng Main, TKGS.

So be careful with accepting DSA CO - be very sure you are definitely going to the sch before you accept the offer. There is no accepting a DSA CO, and hoping for better PSLE results that you can then use to appeal to another sch now. Sch have rejected appeals from cases with successful DSA COs under MOE's intervention since last year. -
Pen88n:
does this apply to DSA - Academic as well?

MrsSeah:
9 classes = 9 x 40 students = 360 students
Now she is P5. They have 9 classes in her P5 cohort.Zhuge:
how many classes are there in her P6 cohort?
those outside top 10 in school are probably very good students too
