What happened after hitting the 25X for PSLE? Continue tuition in sec sch else cannot keep up? Whwoyou at happen after sec sch - continue tuition with JC / uni? What happen thereafter when they need to start work?jedamum:
..you still have a few more years :rahrah:
still have some more years to accumulate money for tuition, ah?
lol. let's say with 2 subject tuition, i see ds calibre as 23X-24X, but with 4 subject tuition, i think he may be able to hit 25X. so how? :scratchhead:
:moneyflies:
I think like what BeContented has mentioned, we parents need to know our kids' capabilities and be realistic. It's good to \"push\" a little, but \"pushing beyond boundaries\" will only create issues for kids and parents in the future. What we want to raise are independent & resourceful kids, not spoon-fed kids who have to rely on tuition and support all the way!
You have a point, but still, with the means, parents will still go for tuition, me included, as I don't see it will hamper his attitude towards learning as I am a believer that some tuition centres do have resources and technique that if I rely on myself or my kid,we will lose out in the ranking race. -

I am aware of a 270ish kid...still very busy attending all sorts of tuition and enrichment classes!!What happened after hitting the 25X for PSLE? Continue tuition in sec sch else cannot keep up? Same here...this boy scored fantastic results for PSLE, is in IP program but can't cope. Now attending tuition for English, Math and Science. I was shown the weekly schedule and was shocked.

What I see as more important to my kid are life skills, resourcefulness, adaptability, etc.

Other than the top few (maybe 3%?) who are going to \"fight it out\" for scholarships or sought-after faculties / courses, most will get average / above average results and still go through uni as usual and landed up with a job in society. Unless you are getting into government agencies / government-linked companies, results do not matter after at most 1st job. I have seen so many who do not excel in academic but doing well in corporate world due to the right qualities they have. So why the added stress to demand the kids to be among the top all the time? -
EQ matters more (than IQ) in the corporate world and tuition takes away time to participate in human interaction activities which develop interpersonal skills. While grades may open the interview doors, it is the chemistry/fit with the interviewer that determine the right candidate. It is also not difficult for the interviewer to differentiate between the genuinely high IQ candidate and the "manufactured intelligent" candidate. A couple of out of the world questions which require thinking out of the box, a review of the participation in non-academic related activities record and the interviewer can guess the actual calibre of the candidate.

many years ago I went for my first job interview in one of the stat boards.
six interviewers with me sitting opposite of them.
after the first round of interviewing and I thought the interview was coming to an end, I was asked in Mandarin about my opinions on something.
I was completely caught off guard as I never got myself prepared at all for an interview in Mandarin.
Luckily I was quick enough to switch and got the job.
After I was into the job for a few months, I asked my boss why they conducted interview in Mandarin.
She said they needed someone bilingual and all who were shortlisted stated that they were bilingual, and therefore it was only fair that the candidates could display this skill during an interview. -
I fail to understand why an intelligent kid who scored 270+ for PSLE has prob coping with IP. If he still requires tuition at Sec 1, then is this going to go for 6 years? This is scary.

i think we should not discredit the kid's abilities just because he/she attended numerous tuition prior to secondary sch. it may just be a mismatch and he/she is more suited for O-level route. -

I don't know much about IP. Is IP very different from O levels? But i know this boy is intelligent.janet_lee88:
