      :scratchhead:

      2E = twice exceptional (anything giftedness + learning disabilities)
      PG = profoundly gifted (1 in a million, IQ>152)
      EG = exceptionally gifted (1 in 100,000, 145<IQ<152)
      GEP = take out those very gifted in specific areas, and then take 1 in 100 of the remainder. (IQ >120)
      HA = High Ability student not necessarily gifted (IQ>120)
      Mensa = 2 in 100 (IQ>120)
      MG = moderately gifted (130<IQ<138)
      HG = highly gifted (138<IQ<145)

      Hi 2ppaamm, just curious - when children sit for the GEP entry papers, are they IQ score communiated to the parents? those who made it to GEP?[/quote]The GEP tests do not test for IQ scores.

        thanks jtoh. So in order to know the IQ score, the parents need to arrange the child to be tested lor? hmm.... how many of us would do that?

            Well if your child is suspected to have a learning disability, one of the tests administered by a psychologist would normally include an IQ test. So children who are tested for dyslexia for eg. would have taken IQ tests.

              Anyway, why is it important to know a child's IQ? Unless you suspect the child has a learning disability or is immensely gifted. Otherwise it's just an exercise in vanity. In my opinion anyway. 🙂

                    neither! My question was triggered by 2ppaamm’s post on the different categories of giftedness.

                        If you were to ask me, I would also say no need to know one lah. My kid entered and sail through 3 yrs of GEP without much help from us - up till now I have no idea which catergory he belongs to and if he is even \"gifted\" :? But back to the topic if \"is GEP really necessary?\" ... for me it is a \"yes\", it benefited my kid a lot - the curriculum suited him. It's not for everyone though, I have seen others doing badly or hanging on with lots of tuition or parents busy doing their kids' projects.
