Gep has started since 1984 ? And yet we have so little information like cost effective analysis from MOE.

I have met this person , at p1 he tried to discuss with me war strategies after reading tons of war books in K2. P3 got selected into GEP, PSLE top 5 in Spore, Sec 1 won individual awards in interschool sports competition , Upper sec top cohort in IP school for few subjects , spends his free time teaching friends who are weaker in studies.  And in actual fact, he Didnt attend the GEP program because his parents opted him out . (the 501th kid must be thanking him for the spot) I have to read 2ppaamm posts to Finally understand where his parents are coming from. And like LJ, he doesn't need the program to flourish?

In the same vein as  2ppaamm , as long as there is fairness across the board , many people will be very grateful. Most if not all parents will like their poor kids to be stimulated. , to have more attention from the school to max their potential .  And many kids are bored too ( maybe teachers boring ....)

      And yes I likeSheldon Tan!!

There's no 501st kid. Bec that kid didn't take up GEP, there are then only 499 kids in GEP that year. No waiting list.

LJ has good support of his sec school, so how come it becomes MOE's failure I dont see. Yes he was not talent spotted early on but once his calibre was known , he has been provided with good support.

the gripe here is not the support from NUSH, but before he enters NUSH

So maybe we should have NUS Primary School for Math and Science Geniuses, and Primary School for Gifted Literary and Linguistics Talents and School for Pre-Teen Chinese Scholars? :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Since I can't have holistic education, I rather opt with generalist. But if they display certain strengths in a particular domain, I hope there are silo centers to engage them. But they still remain in their current schools. That's my wish list I shared earlier.

Have not been following LJ story. Did MOE claim credit for LJ's achievement?

No, they did not. I gave credit that the screening test was sound enough to not put him in the programme and get concussion from the English, his mum also said the rigors of English would not suit him. So I highlight this as a positive thing of MOE as opposed to the other view that screening was not accurate and screened LJ out.....

Thanks jtoh and Ksi for the (n+1) th clarification .

Moe getting credits for not spotting and nurturing gifted ones like LJ in their gifted program ???

Sun_2010, you are hilarious. I can see many parents are themselves the gifted types though .

Makes my belief that they r looking for administrators even stronger. Why look out for a rocket scientist? Aren't we the richest country? Can always pay someone to deliver the rocket!!

But seriously, perhaps that's why they take SS so seriously...and also, I think they even went thru Animal Farm...my O level lit text!!

Then only the well-fed all-rounded Chinese PRCs will be in the programme. Excel in Chinese and well-rounded what. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
