[Bedok] Primary Schools
-
Hi,
Need your advice pls. Going for Phase 2C supplementary on 15 Aug how? Bedok Green or East Coast. So many disappointed parents around - those who didn’t managed to get into Red Swastika, Yu Neng and Fengshan. The next school is Bedok Green however only 39 vacancies, most probably need to ballot - very traumatising. If can’t go in, MOE just post the child to any school, will it be worse?
Surprised that East Coast - not many takers and still alot of vacancies, do not understand why? Anyone care to share? -
Hi,
Just to share, balloting at Yu Neng after Phase 2C is unsuccessful. The next two schools to consider is Bedok Green and East Coast. How should we parents go about choosing between the two schools?
For Bedok Green, the vacancies left - 39. Just imagine, based on the latest results (Phase 2C), we will have 26 disappointed parents from Red Swastika, 26 disappointed parents from Yu Neng, 5 disappointed parents from Fengshan. The total no. is 57 and the list goes on. Temasek will have some diappointed parents as well.
So what is the next step? Parents will sure zoom in to the next best - Bedok Green. Can’t imagine, sure have to ballot again for Phase 2C supplementary. Should we try our luck there and there will be alot of Prayers to God again after the 2nd balloting. Luckily, most parents have strong heart for who knows, one may collapse if his/her child didn’t managed to get in to the 2nd preferred school after balloting.
Or should Parents choose East Coast, which is safer with lots of vacancies. There are even East Coast brochures at Fengshan Pri., promoting the school. Looking at the big picture, it is still our child who will succeed in the school if we nurture our kids well.
If our child tops the school with excellent PSLE results which is comparable to SAP schools, that school will become popular, don’t you think so? Like Rulang? -

Personally, I would just pick any school that is nearest and most convenient, unless you strongly prefer (in which case I would just go for it unless you know there is likely 0 chance, like Ngee Ann for >1km) or dislike a particular school for any reason. Chances are the least popular ones will still have places left after Phase 2Cs. SC/PRs will still have priority over foreign students. Furthermore, according to the MOE website, \"Should any Singaporean child be unsuccessful during Phase 2 Supplementary, the parents can seek MOE's assistance to facilitate admission for the child to a primary school with remaining vacancies. This will be done before phase 3 registration begins.\" There should still be enough vacancies left in the Bedok area that your child won't be posted to Pasir Ris.Hi,

Thank you for your valuable comments. However to be realistic, the achievement grades of Bedok Green students are better than East Coast. I'm caught in a fix. Cos based on our registered address, Bedok Green falls between 1 to 2 km, whereas East Coast is within 1 km. Really stressful. -
If it helps, historically, East Coast still had plenty of places left after 2Cs. I am not saying it will necessarily be the same again this year, but if Bedok Green is your preference, you may wish to consider whether you are likely to lose anything at all by going for Bedok Green in 2Cs. Perhaps call up the schools beforehand to gauge your chances?

I feel that Bedok Green will be taken up by SC within 1KM, judging from those who failed to get a place in RS/YN/FS will sure vie for it. Have to call school every hr or so on 15th to gauge chances. Hopefully they will feedback to us.

Yes, looking at the Statistics, Bedok Green most probably will be taken up by applicants < 1km and balloting will be conducted too. On 15 Aug, when we called up the school, we will know. ‘The standard reply is those applicants above 1 km, might have to try other schools’ - expected answer, like can predict the results.
I called up East Coast and want to find out more about the school. Surprisingly, the staff gave me 1 word answer ‘umm, ah, yes, no’. So disappointing. Guess the teachers there felt very much discouraged being the ‘leftover’ school for applicants to choose. Cos they knew that most parents might have to choose East Coast if surrounding schools like Fengshan, Yu Neng, Red Swastika, St Anthony and Temasek can’t get in.
In terms of academic results, Opera Estate is comparable to Bedok Green. I went to recce Opera Estate Pri. School. It is surrounded with private condos, semi-detached and terrace houses. No wonder not many parents choose that school cos it’s not near to HDB flats. -
Hi Hi
In last year’s phase 2C(S), all the applicants in Bedok Green are staying within 1km and balloting was conducted. I was one of the unlucky one to be balloted out. So if you have decided to try at Bedok Green, please have a 2nd choice in mind cos if you happen to be the same as me, the school will give you a form immediately after the balloting exercise to fill up 3 choices of school for your child and MOE will post your child to the nearest school. -
Glad to heard that the SC given priority over SPR during the registration, hope that MOE will improve more the registration system to be fair to all SC children.
Strongly not agreed that former student got priority to register their child under 2A2, especially some of them are staying more than 1km far from the school. vacancies should not be part of own "Asset" can passing generation by generation, this is not fair to those children whose is staying <1km. -
