      Hi
I have exposed my son to Tony Buzan's P1 english. I found the introduction of mindmapping for creative writing useful. I was told that MindChamps and Learning Lab also used mapping techniques for creative writing.

Could anyone share their thoughts and what you know? How about British Council?

      Thanks.

          hi Pranav,
we have some CW discussion http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=75.

if i am staying at the above places (mainly woodlands), i would certainly give http://eastasia.britishcouncil.org/public/course-description.aspx?country=Singapore&coursename=Creative+Writing+1&Course_ID=5c4efc20-df96-4837-ab72-bee5ecdbf01f a try. You can check from their website what are the ongoing courses available.

            Hi,

My kids are with BC since beginning of the year. I’ve seen improvement in my P2 girl’s writing but there are still alot of room for improvement and there’s so much BC can do. My P1 boy wasn’t reading well and had to start with reading development in BC but he is progressing well and based on the SA1 results that he rec’d so far, we think he should score around 94/100. This is something we never expect when he was in end K2. He was always a big challenge for us.

I intend to put them at Literacy circle holiday program during june hols. It’s 2 hours daily program and can choose to attend for a week or only couple of days (I think). The rate for entire week is $200. I’ve to send the kids for assessment but I am keen to give it a try.

            I think they’ve a woodlands outlet 63486701.

I saw their materials before and found it useful and interesting. I feel it’s alot more academic than BC. BC does writing as well but their focus on compo is from P3 onwards. Also BC focuses alot more on enrichment rather than specific academic so the children enjoys themselves there. We know of someone who switch from BC to literacy circle and found it good. But I had signed up with BC so didn’t give it a try. Hope to take this opportunity to try out literacy circle.

              Hi all,

There is a centre named "The Write’s Place" @ Jurong East.
It specialises in teaching children writing. Not sure whether
anyone has sent your kids there for lessons. Need feedback
about this centre. It seems that it has a long waiting list.
              Thanks!

I think The Writer’s Place is in Woodlands, if I am not wrong. I am looking for English Creative Writing Intensive Holiday Course in Jurong area for my P3 for some writing technique. Any recommendation? TIA.

The Write Place by Mexxi Three is at Jurong East. My gal managed to go under Ms Liza Tan (the founder) after 1 year wait. She’s good. She has been there since P3 and is now P5.

But the waiting list is very long

The Write Place @Woodlands is the 2nd centre. Just happened to pass by the one @JE last Sunday. It was stated on the notice board that the enrolment for P2 to P6 was full for 2009. According to the person-in-charge, it seemed that the lower level students(e.g. K2,P1) will eventually moved up to fill the places of those in the upper level. Thus, the chances of getting in when one is in the upper level is slim. It’s better to register the kid when they are in only K1.

Liza opened another centre at Woodlands? I will check with her tomorrow. If yes, then I’ll get my sis-in-law to register her gal there since they stay at Woodlands.

Yes, it is true that the current K2 and P1 will move up and fill up the space eventually unless the kid is transferred out.

My K1 gal is with Ms Lacey Teo for her phonics…also at The Write Place by Mexxi Tree. Ms Teo is good too and my gal enjoys her lessons with her. At K1, she can read pretty independently as commented by her school teacher at today’s PTM.
