All About Getting Priority Registration

Katherinetsl:
within 1-2km, Rosyth and Xinmin are the 2 that we will consider.
Rosyth is out, because need to ballot within 1 km at 2C and at phase 2B (in certain years, can go and check).
That leave only Xinmin. In that case, might as well go back to Maha Bodhi (phase 2A). Since wef 2019 no more exam in (P1 nor P2), perhaps seek Transfer at end of P3, into those schools u are keen in -

Sorry, my apology. I got mistaken u with someone else, who mentioned that she studied in Maha Bodhi primary before, her ex primary school. I apologise.

Thanks zac’s mum, just checked, it is not within 1-2km…guess no need to even do pv liao. Within 1-2km, Rosyth and Xinmin are the 2 that we will consider.
Holy Innocent typically ballot for SC > 2km in Phase 2B. Hence, if you are eligible for Phase 2B (Catholic or PV etc), you are in a strong position. Otherwise, you will most likely have to ballot in Phase 2C.
As for Rosyth, if you are not able to get into Phase 2B or earlier, you will stand no chance as it will ballot for SC < 1km. Even for Phase 2B, there’s a prospect for balloting.
Xinmin is the easiest and safest option for you.
so that means we still have a chance if we do pv at Holy Innocent?
Actually nearest to us is Hougang Pri Sch, it is a good school but we are looking at Religion school (if possible), if not then a good Secondary school that is affiliated so that my boy will not need to be so stressed when studying for PSLE.
Oh, just receive the reply from Xinmin that Xinmin Sec sch is not affiliated to the pri sch… -
So if I stay 1km near Hougang Pri sch, do I still need to do pv ?

Depends on which year is your child born.
If registering this year I don’t think you need to worry for hougang pri and xinmin. -

hi hi all parents, would like to ask if anyone has such experience…?
my current flat is within 1 km of school and my parents new flat also within 1 km of sch…
I intend to move maybe this year or next year which makes my registered address beyond 1 km but within 2 km…
would it be a good idea that I change my registered address to my parents? if I move beyond 1 km but within 2 km… will my child be penalised? -

If you have benefitted from the distance priority and gotten your child a place in school as a result, you will be penalized by MOE if you shifted out of your original distance before the 30 months is up. If you change your address to your parents’ place but have no intention to stay there, you will be penalized by the law for cheating. Refer to the statute for the exact punishment.
Either way, they are lose-lose options. -

people does that and chance of getting caught is very slim .. also has leasing home address which is cheaper than rental

You can read about some examples of people thinking their chances were good until it become not so good here: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/parents-fined-for-lying-about-home-address-to-get-child-into-9906246, https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/man-charged-with-providing-false-address-to-get-daughter-into-primary-school, https://www.asiaone.com/false-addresses-and-p1-registration-moe-rules-and-qas-using-rental-addresses.
Problem is, it only takes a slip of the tongue and a small misstep to land yourself in unnecessary trouble... And kids at that age, tends to slip their tongue quite often and share more than they should -

In this day of internet and linked government databases, once u update your address at police station, ALL the govt organizations are notified. Big brother is watching, all your neighbors are watching, bus driver Uncle is watching, school admin staff are watching, and there are CCTVs watching you and family everywhere you go in public.
Even if u lease a home address, are u sure the agent or enterprising businessman selling u the “fake” address will not Bao Toh you to put you in jail? -

You’re living life on the edge of a very high cliff!

My kids’ primary sch journey alr surfaced parents caught :-
1. One parent leased only address thro an old lady, but what old lady didn’t realised is if there is no legitimate tenancy, both parties committed cheating sch which later surfaced as her daughter was gonna use mother’s address for P1 registration. Both sets of parents were investigated & unfortunately, the owner’s daughter was able to state her FTW status & the other family was charged.
2. In of my child’s year of registration, we were anxious as there was one more application exceeding the vacancies available & we were anxiously waiting for call to enter into ballot. The call never came. It was a few months into new P1 sch term when I was a PSG & had a chance chatting with P, who then explained one couple called up for investigation as someone they know reported a borrowed address had been used & the family residing >2km fr sch. P said MOE told couple to withdrawal application. Not sure if they were charged or let off.
It’s not abt cheaper option, but any parents ought to be careful not to knowingly cheat or find illegitimate options. MOE allows family to reside at address used for P1 registration within a limit of 30 mths. If u hv the means to own a property to give u that within 1km priority during P1 registration, or 2nd option of either enter into legitimate tenancy to stay within 1km or if parents stay within proximity of school & you are able to put yr child in the legitimate care of yr parents whilst u work, then those are yr ‘cheaper’ & legitimate options. If u’re SAHP, it’ll be hard to justify unless you’re able to show legitimate need for yr role to care for yr non-ambulant elderly or along that line (just an example).
To show legitimate residences, you’ll need to change address at police post within 30 days of new residency. I recall a lady was caught unaware when she sold her flat after her divorce & moved in to stay with her sister. Many are indeed ignorant thinking going back to stay with parents does not require official change of address on i/c. There are also those who married & stay with in-laws, but hv not change their address fr their maiden family. Some erroneously assume they hv an adv of a couple splitting addresses for P1 registration to their advantage. Do rmbr, when I couple register a child for P1, they’ve to show same address, unless officially in divorce process.
Whatever it is, it is certainly not worth to go the illegitimate way & cause yourself embarrassment or grief, which might affect your child eventually.
To give the best education to your child, is to be the right/good role model to them.
Hope I’ve not punched sensitive buttons here. Just sharing perspective. -
“平时不做亏心事 半夜敲门也不惊”
I dunno how people can live with this unease at the back of their minds every day. Who is going to look after your poor kids while you are serving time in jail? How will you answer their questions: “Where has Mummy and/or Daddy gone for so long?” without resorting to lying (again)? -
in this present digital age, it’s IMPOSSIBLE not to get caught for the entire 6 years of the child in primary school.
schools are on alert, bus drivers on alert and even the child’s classmates would alert their parents through casual talk…that so and so ACTUALLY stays where. by teaching kids to lie, parents also set a bad example. -

1st time Pri 1 application for 2021.
Does proximity count for affiliated primary school registration? I am getting clarifications from the SMPS if I qualified under 2(A)2 and using a new property address.
If I qualify for 2(A)2, then it will be 1-2km for St Margaret’s Pri School.
Or should I try for 2C <1km for Holy Innocents Primary School?
Which has a better chance? Please share your opinions.
Thank you.
