        ksme:
Just asked my son today and he told me teacher will read a sentence in Mandarin, eg A boy kicking a football. The students are to tick/circle the correct picture on the exam paper. They will be given maybe 3 to 4 pictures showing boys doing different actions, eg reading book, playing badminton etc and the students will need to pick up the correct picture to coincide with the sentence read by teacher. I hope he remembered it correctly. Also, hopefully, the format is still the same as 4 years ago when he was P1.

        😄
        Thanks 😉

Yay yay…i can officially join this group now. My gal got balloted in under Phase 2b. However while waiting for ballotin, i was talking to some parents. They told me alot of horror stories of how stress it is being in TN, and how some of them even ended up crying as they couldnt cope with the pressure for their kids to perform and do their homework. Is it truly so pressuring? For a moment of madness, i even considered giving up the space as I dunno if I can cope with the stress. Unfortunately I am not a stay at home parent. Any parents can share how to cope with this stress and is it as bad as this? Thanks!

              Hi Starrenee

              :congrats: and :welcome:

My DS is in Pri 1 this year, so far there is no pressure from school and he is enjoying his learning experience and love to go to school.

Perhaps the pressure will come after the so called honeymoon years, but I do see many upper primary students that are still active in their CCA.

:congrats: and :welcome: to Tao Nan!

My son is in P4 this year and he has enjoyed himself very much in Tao Nan making many friends and loving the various activities in the school. So far all his teachers have been very caring towards the kids providing feedback to parents if there are any concerns. Maybe this is the \"stress\" that the parents were talking about. Unless the child has special needs or are exceptionally weak/naughty, there should not be any concern of stress from the school. If indeed the child falls into this category, I think other schools will also have feedback to the parents so I don't think Tao Nan is more stressful than others.

What I like about Tao Nan is that the school is rich in Chinese Culture and there are definitely more exposure to the students on this aspect in their curriculum for eg learning 1000 Chinese word recognition or di zi gui in lower primary, and exposure to Chinese traditions and customs during the annual Chinese New Year celebration, Mid Autumn Celebration etc.

The school also provides various leadership opportunities to the kids. Teachers will appoint monitors, PE reps, AV monitors etc etc which are on rotation basis in class. CCA also provides many opportunities for leadership. Students are nominated for prefectship if they have demonstrated leadership.

I was a FTWM during my son's P1 to P3. He coped ok and we were not unduly stressed with his school work as well. I am sure you and your child will settle into Tao Nan nicely and enjoy the years there.

                :celebrate:

Phew…i think you both are the first I know that says your kids enjoy TN. Thanks for the reassurance. I;m not sure if this is the correct forum to ask …but since both me and hubby dont speak chinese, we are worried if our gal can cope with chinese in TN. Any particular chinese tuition center you would strongly recommend (that’s popular with TN kids)? Thanks!

No tuition for my son until this year at Tien Hsia. A lot of TNS kids are at Tien Hsia. 😄
