2014 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

Seeking opinion…
I’m wondering if it is possible to do without English tuition ?
Is doing assessment books sufficient? or still need guidance for language subject? Because language is not like Mathematics, just practise more questions -

I find this very subjective. It depends the ability of the parents to coach the child.Seeking opinion...

For us, we choose to send the kids to tutor and felt lucky that we managed to find someone effective though it's term 2 of PSLE year. Through tuition, strength was build on oral and compo. Tutor also taught dd the watch out, techniques and strategy of paper 2. She clarified doubts, mistakes, etc...These are things that I feel we won't be able to help even if we were to give them the assessment books to do.
But just coming out of PSLE this year, if the paper standard continues to be manageable, the question is do we need tuition???? -
The answer to whether on tuition is needed really depends on the child and the parents.
Child - some children have good aptitude for languages
Parents - some parents are exceptional in English and are also able to teach it.
So if the scenarios is - child with aptitude + parents who can teach -> probably no need tuition
If the above combination does not exist, IMHO tuition may be useful. -
I’m guessing that there could be some changes regarding tuitions coming up as there seems to be so much discussions going on, especially in the MSM.
I’m taking thing at a time, thinking about the coming SA2 first. I told my ds that he has to start his engine early, during the Nov/Dec holidays. But I know deep inside my heart that this is an uphill task, knowing that how not hardworking my ds is and how lazy his parents are now, especially after coming to 5years of coaching, arguing and fighting, we are all getting fatigue. I can’t wait for everything to be over SOON… haiz… -

Why? These are key for motivation and boost.
:thankyou:
Power poses? Karate kicks, dancing.. What'll this gestures generates gd feeling of power infact it is proven that any activity after these moves is attempted with positivity. Study and spot yr child's self motivation and encourage them. -

I told him stop arguing during study time. its a wast of time and distract from studies. He doesn't want to go tuition for next year.I'm guessing that there could be some changes regarding tuitions coming up as there seems to be so much discussions going on, especially in the MSM.

My ds is super argumentative, even when we show him the answers coupled with numerous explanations, he is still not convinced and insists that his answer is correct. :slapshead:

Hi lim72
I empathise your situation. From P4 onwards my son also argue that his answer is correct. P5 onwards I let go. 2014 is the difficult year for us. He thinks that I unnessarily torture him.His school practise enough for him.no need to do extra.
My problem is convince him to study. After explain many times he will ask the same qn. Why need to study? Its makes me fedup. He is arguing for everything. ex: I told exercise boost your energy. He can’t agree. I have to proof.
