guys, i am on both RC and CCMC. i am passionate for serving my community only. i notice that most of our members have been serving the community for many many years. think twice if you want to join RC. we need people to serve the community. of course you will get some small benefits such as priority for primary school and hdb new flat priority for low income family.
Heard that being RC members would have 3 benefits?
(1) Free parking in the GRC? Like that good can save monthly season ticket.
(2) Phase 2B in Primary School enrollment.
(3) HDB new flat priority?
Those who intend to try the RC route better be careful, what if the electoral zone change? -

... This thread is to assist parents to get more info prior to joining the RC and help them to determine if it is what they want. Remember that even if we've alternative motives, we still spend our previous time and efforts to participate. Plus, it is also a great opportunities for our children to get to know their neighbours and get involved in these RC activities and teach them many values such as responsibility, leadership, teamwork etc.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks for your thoughts! -

bt do volunteer with an open heart. if you join for the sake of the perks, it would make yourself very tiresome from the 'work'. -

So is it confirm join RC member in the GRC then can apply the schools in that GRC? When coming to Phase 2B we can get how many letters from the MP during the P1 registration?
if you are elligble you will be given a website address to log in and apply.
I am new here and looking at this route.
In our case, my hubbby will be serving in the RC as part of his job requirements. So I have a few questions on this, if fellow experienced mummies/ dads can enlighten me.
1. Do anyone know if he will still need to register with PA, since he gets a letter from his HR that he will serve with a particular GRC?
2. Hubby is old boy of another school already and in the Alumni. But we have a preferred school in mind cuz of the different nature of our 3 kids and tot School B may be more suitable even though School A is highly sought after already. In this case, if hubby completes his RC duties in the district we stay in (and where the school is) and assuming he gets a letter, how does it work?
Can we do the following? Register as old boy for the first school (School A), then when Phase 2 registration opens, he can approach our preferred school (School B) with the letter and be considered for Phase 2 (is that the case?)
Or do we already have to indicate our interests in school B from the start?
Cuz i thought we will be able to know if there are vacancies for school B in Phase 2B and stand a firm chance before we withdraw from School A and get accepted by School B in Phase 2?
thanks much in advance -

You can register for School A in Phase 2A, and School B in Phase 2B. However, if you do decide to register in School B, you must first withdraw from School A (if you had applied during Phase 2A) before you are allowed to register in School B during Phase 2B.
Not sure whether you need to indicate your interest in Phase 2B right rom the start, because if I remember correctly, someone ever mentioned that the qualified community leader would be given a username and password to log on to a website and apply for a place in the school online.
Can someone please advise? -

Thanks QMS. In ref to the above, will be able to know the number already taken up in 2B when the 2B phase starts so as the assess whether there is a chance that 2 needs to be balloted before we withdraw from the other school?

I also wonder if 2B needs to be indicated from the start?
thanks if others have any experience with the above! -

Hi momoshop!
Take this year's registration, for instance. Registration for Phase 2B lasted 2 days. Hence, you could gauge, on the second day, whether balloting would be required or not. If you think you do not need to go through balloting in School B on the second day, you will have to quickly withdraw from School A before you are allowed to register in School B.
The advice given by fellow forummers here is to station one parent at each school. Hence, if you decide to try School B, the parent at School A will proceed to the withdrawing. Once the application is removed from MOE's system, the other parent stationed in School B can then proceed with the registration. -
All parents....who are GRL....please advise as I am actively involved in RC for the past 2 years and in the position of Secretary right now. However the GRC that I am serving does not have the school that I want to put my daughter in and I have got feedback that it does not matter as long as I have the advisor's endorsement I will be qualified in phase 2B of any schools.
Has anyone out there has successfully gone thru phase 2B which this kind of situation.

HI QMs
Yah, that is what we plan to do. But I wonder if we will now the number left in 2B more assuredly, so dun get into the situation of… well, withdraw from the other school then register at Phase 2 B and then told we ve go into Ballot cuz more PV register last day, or active community leaders register last minute.
I wonder if PA issues the number for the letter of endorsement givenfor the various constituency, so that will help to narrow down the numbers left, though logically, if my hubby serve in the RC, he should know right (but in the case of GRC there may bemany RCs, so… not too sure abt that)
Does anyone know if we can call PA to find out the number for each area?
copsland007, from earlier posting i saw here, it seems that the letter is valid for the schools within the GRC. There is anexample for St Hilda, in the early pages of this thread, where the election changes the boundaries or the mum found out that she serve on a different area, and not eligible for the school. Rest of the more experienced mums may want to correct me
thanks
