But i think distance is still an important factor. Looking at this year regustration, many good schools are balloting at 1km. Even they allow GRL to choose any schools from next year onwards, like what you mentioed it will be like phase 2c.

True... actually no extra advantage to GRLs even with this new policy. Distance still play a part.

I agree. That's the exception for this year for not putting the info on MOE website.
This exception will continue for every 4-5 years šŸ˜‚

It is indeed good news for GRLs if the news is true but does not make good sense. We are encouraged to send our child to a school near our house so say you are a Jurong resident and GRL, it is funny that you now can apply to a school in East Coast under P2B..... :?

Ya it doesn't make sense, plus during application for the P1 registration via PA website, we are supposed to enter the address which we are staying- the GRC we stay & serve, hence we can't move either.

It will be useful if you want to use another address, for example, your kid's grandma's address, which is different from the GRC you served. This can be done if you declare your kid stays there. Else, as all said, it's meaningless as distance is still the overarching criteria.

Looking at the recent P1 registration figures at various schools, I noticed for P2B and P2C, the critical criteria to increase a chance to get into a keenly contested school is to stay within 1km.

If the news is true, although GRLs will have flexibility to join P2B everywhere (out of their original GRC), they will still be at a disadvantaged during balloting if they do not stay within 1km.

Even if relatives' address is used after making the declaration, it can only be considered 1-2km category.

Having said all these and assuming all other existing rules remain the same, this new rule (if it is true at all...) will only be good for those wanting their child to study in a school beyond their GRC (that means further from home..) and less popular school (where there are no balloting or ballot for 1-2km or >2km). šŸ˜‚

All those very good schools typically have balloting in P2B. The choices might be very limited. Unless that school can offer something that the schools in the existing GRC don't know, else the travelling time for the child might be very tiring. Imagine have to travel far away for 6 years

Almost like not a good news (at least for me)

Scgs is under Kallang Moulmein after election. However I heard that current tanjong pager grassroot members wrote to their grc MP and asked for exception to be able to apply to SCGS under phase 2B for next year P1 registration. The MP had approved. If this is the case then other GRC members should request the same eg. both pre election boundary-Aljunied and amk grc should be able to apply Rosyth for next year regi.
