As for spending and the economy.. well.. I wonder what the govt is thinking too. If Spending is to be encouraged, WHY introduce GST? GST is to discourage spending.. I remember that was one of the reasons given. If spending is good, WHY discourage it? weird.. isn't it?
And, for your last sentence, please substantiate with facts. -

:goodpost: Totally agreed! I have nothing against the FW. I have issues with some of the S passes, EP or even PR. If they have talents that SC lack, no problem, welcome with open arms. But for a lot of positions (e.g. that Amy Cheong position - she's a PR right?), don't tell me there are no qualified SC that want that job at that pay?
Also, I feel we should implement a minimal wage system. So that the FW and our lower income SC can have a decent standard of living. Just look at the experience of HK recently reported in ST. There was a quote that I totally remembered. It says something like the overheads from the ever increasing rental far exceeds that little bit of increment the wages for the lower income workers. We should seriously look at the HK experience.
You do know that by implementing minimum wages across the board will bring forth black market labours (at a more affordable cost), and create other societal issues?
With minimum wages, more jobs would be lost; every business is looking at their cost. Take, a famous Sushi restaurant, if the minimum hourly/monthly wages is to follow, the 4 cleaner crews will be down to 2, to justify their business overhead... well, then we will have 2 more jobless to add into the total. -

Yes, I read the original experiment report... Those are mice! They are not civilized, not educated, no intelligence, they don't need a thriving economy system, they don't need 5Cs.... they don't live with our mankind's needs and wants.... That was an experiment to study the animal's habitats and their living habits! -

If the SME is capable, it will be able to survive via effective and efficient system via use of technology etc..Do you know how many SMEs will fail, if the gov adopt this policy?
Do you know what's the percentage of the SMEs contribution to Spore's economy?
Do you know every successful business were all started as SME, to begin with?
If it can't, then it should make way for those that can. btw, I'm referring to construction sector, not service.
Look around you.. if you happen to pass by construction sites..
Do you often see one person work and 5 person eye power? Do they really need so many workers in the first place?
That, is very poor management. But they could afford it.. bcoz labor is cheap.
If labor is controlled and they hire less but more skilled workers, they would be motivated to plan more carefully to reduce wastage of resources. And the society as a whole would benefit. -

GST? Bcos the aging population, the pool of tax payers are getting smaller, by the year of 2065, there will be 6:10... GST is to broaden the tax base, the running of a gov, the public services etc, needs money to run...
Now, GST is a good policy! The FT, FW, FDW, PR... whoever spends, pays GST. Fair tax system? No? -
The French gov, The Great Britain, the Spain etc... their current economy state are something for us to learn.
Their VAT is as high as 16.5% and high income taxes, why are their gov still so poor? Their economy is not thriving, their jobless rate are high.
WHY?
(Their workers unions are too strong! They protest, they protect, they eliminate the FT and FW!)
No more FT, FW and so on, so they thought they would have all the jobs and prosperities to themselves? Sadly, the result is the opposite!
