P2 Math - General Discussion

Hi all
Im new here and sharing my 2cents worth
It is really very efficient to start young and if you can start at Nursery or Kindergardens and you’ll realise your child will be very good in numbers concept.
BTT he/she reaches P1, the child will not have problems in major questions. -

I agree with you. My sons have no problems with the Maths concepts, but I am wondering how do we tackle the problem of \"carelessness\"?Hi all

Hahahhaa...i guess many parents like you, like me share the same problem. I would like to think carelessness is a young's priviledge... i encounter them in all my 3 kids.
I guess they'll grow out of it as they realise the importance of quality checking not just surface checking.
What i did was i always remind him of what his common mistakes n carelessness are, effective or not its child to child, very subjective. -

I tried to do that with my sons as well, but effectiveness differs from time to time. It works now but may not work later. It is most frustrating when they come home with a almost perfect-score test/exam paper, with a minor careless mistake, while all the challenging sums are being answered perfectly! -

Hahhaa  Yaaaa...mine too...difficult ones he can do, easy wans all sala...alamak what happened, i asked him and he did this :? -
 hmmmm maybe such kids have brains for difficult tasks!
I would like to derive it as OVERLY CONFIDENCE in such a scenario.
Very often, my son would get all the problems sums correct and the section A or B wrong. With error like...
a) models/working/number sentence - perfect BUT forgot to fill in the answer appropriately
b) all correct and filled in answer but wrote answer wrongly!
c) when asked to circle he went to underline. -
Dear all
I have a math question as follows:
Jenny and Jonathan collected stamps.
Jenny had 355 stamps.
She exchanged 56 stamps with Jonathan.
Jonathan exhanged 44 stamps with her.
a) How many stamps did Jenny have after giving some stamps to Jonathan?
b) How many stamps did Jenny have finally?
Appreciate if anyone could advise on the above. -
Jolyn:
Exchanging stamps imply that you get back another stamp or stamps for each stamp you surrender.Dear all

a) 355 - 56 = 299
b) 299 + 44 = 343 -

I think the question did not sound logical. Did Jenny exchange or give stamps with/to Jonathan? The story said \"exchanged\" while the question said \"gave\". So conflicting. If it was exchange, then Chiefkiasu's solution is correct.
