Hi
In P2, when will be the models introduced? Mid year or from the beginning?
In the text book, it was somewhere in the middle.
Any idea? Thank you in advance. -
My son was taught ‘Models’ only at P3…considered late and hard for him to implement. A teacher-friend advised me to teach daughter to use Models at P1 and it will become a habit…Section C Maths exam paper gives 4 marks per question…if models are not shown during workings, then the full 4 marks won’t be given.
Bought the full set of ‘Fan Math i-Excel’ from Popular…25% discount. However, I prefer Simon Eio ‘Step by Step. Problem-solving using Models’ instead. -
Thank you Janet. Then I start teaching the models now. In fact, I must learn/understand first.

I went through the 'Fan Math i-Excel' with hubby...he said one of the books on 'Heuristics & Model Approach' is rather tough and pref used in Term 3. Don't get the whole set even though there is a 25% discount...there is a 'CA and SA' which may not be of use since there isn't CA and SA for P1s in some schools. -
Ok. Noted. Thank your suggestions.

No worries...we are all here to share and learn...I'm learning something new everyday. -
Heard Kumon math not bad and helpful to boost lower primary calculation skills, saw some sold in Popular. Anyone used it? Any comments?

Jennifer:
Fabian Ng's only has P2 onwards.
I would recommend Math Challenging Problems by Andrew Er and Problem Solving Processes in Mathematics by Fabian Ngpeterch:
dear all,
gal going to P1 next yr. any recommendations for assessment books?
too many choices, don't know which is good.
Andrew Er has at least 2 assessment books. The challenging one might not be suitable for a child who is weak in Maths. Not all qns have detailed workings on how the ans is derived. The other one has graded qns, I think 3 levels - drilling, etc, etc.
I use Andrew Er for my DD too. I've also flipped through his books in stores. They seem to be very good. In the book that I used for my DD, the number of challenging questions are just right, so it doesn't overwhelm the kid (and the parent
).
