P2 Math - General Discussion

Harishita:
Ok. Noted. Thank your suggestions.
No worries...we are all here to share and learn...I'm learning something new everyday. -
Heard Kumon math not bad and helpful to boost lower primary calculation skills, saw some sold in Popular. Anyone used it? Any comments?

Jennifer:
Fabian Ng's only has P2 onwards.
I would recommend Math Challenging Problems by Andrew Er and Problem Solving Processes in Mathematics by Fabian Ngpeterch:
dear all,
gal going to P1 next yr. any recommendations for assessment books?
too many choices, don't know which is good.
Andrew Er has at least 2 assessment books. The challenging one might not be suitable for a child who is weak in Maths. Not all qns have detailed workings on how the ans is derived. The other one has graded qns, I think 3 levels - drilling, etc, etc.
I use Andrew Er for my DD too. I've also flipped through his books in stores. They seem to be very good. In the book that I used for my DD, the number of challenging questions are just right, so it doesn't overwhelm the kid (and the parent
).

Callie Tan:
But i have problem creating an account as they stated they only work with schools... how?
I think problemsums switched strategy to target only schools. Business must be good for them. I remember reading about the founder (a former maths teacher) in the chinese evening papers.
My DD likes the format and question graphics of http://www.p1math.com. She also likes the free games in http://www.problemsums.com.adbie:
I just discovered a new one for P1 maths:
http://www.p1math.com
Seems as good as http://www.problemsums.com.
I'm glad to have discovered these 2 sites.
Maybe you can try the p1math site. Sadly for my DD, they don't have a p2math site. I don't understand why they only target P1. It doesn't make business sense to me. My DD says she will miss the p1math format. If people here know of other similarly good sites, appreciate if you can please share. -
I used to get Challenging Maths by Dawn Tai for my son…but it proved to be too ‘challenging’ for him and left him disappointed. So I switched to ‘Score in Maths’ by Simon Eio.
Score in Maths has 3 levels of difficulties…so the child gains confidence to be able to handle the first level and move on. -
How to teach modelling for P2? In p1 she didn't study modelling. me too. I am new to model drawing. So is there any good books or refference materials available for model drawing in step by step

Hi
Can I get these from popular book shop?
I am not too sure if the two books by Dr Fong are still available in Popular, you may ask the staff to check for you.
MD from 456 should be available.
Best wishes -

Hi plum-cake
I used Step-by Step Maths - Problem Solving using Model (Primary 2) by Simon Eio, which was a helpful start to gain an understanding of model drawing.
