Because my colleague & my hubby both lack of experience & we thought the repairing cost is about $200 (because only the light broken & also need to do some painting), that why we agreed to compensate him w/o reporting to police or insurance claim. However, this morning the car owner said his workshop wants to charge him $1200 because there is some “internal damage of the bumper” and he insists to change a new bumper.

Anyway, just now we bring the car owner to our company’s own workshop and the technician admit that there was really some “internal damage” but the repairing will only cost less than $300 & no need to change a new bumper. The car owner also admits that his workshop people quoted him about $400 for repairing without changing a new bumper. In this case, we offer to the car owner that either he wants to go ahead to report to police or we will compensate him $500.00, at the end we paid him $500.00.

For this $500.00, I will bear $400 and my colleague will have to pay $100. He also did not take the $50 (labor cost) from me although I offer to him. I think is a win win situation & finally all this settle. Thanks for all the advices.

:!: :!: so the driver wanted to change a new bumper? That's fleecing especially that he's aware that it's your colleague who's driving it.

For accidents without injury, you need to report to your respective insurance companies. Complete the details, take some photos etc. Then you can get him (the other driver) to your workshop or his own. The only thing is that he may claim use of \"courtesy car\" during the time his car is at the workshop.

I did mine the last time but kenna something unfortunate with my NCB coz the silly insurance company set aside the money for the accident even though it was amicably settled. Good thing my insurance agent is helping me to sort that out. 🙏

The car owner may think my hubby is the one who will compensate.

We understand his frustration also, as he needs to spend time for repairing and maybe need to take taxi for ½ -1 day, that’s why we compensate him $500 for all that.

I agree it's frustrating - but nobody wanted the accident to happen and it's an accident, afterall. Actually, if its 1/2 - 1 day job, then $100 is more than sufficient for the taxi fare etc.

Would you want to get copies of his receipts, just in case? The workshop usually have an indemnity letter for both parties to sign off. Let me know if you need a template.

I help my colleague to draft an acknowledgement letter, and later we will go to his office to pass the $500.00 to him and at the same time get him to sign the letter.

I need adv also. My parked car was hit by a lorry, who parked at the back of my car. He did not even realised it ( no reverse signal), and went off for lunch. Some kind soul told me that my car is damage before I could drive off.

I took some pictures, and waited for the driver. He came, saw what happen, not realising that i am there wanted to drive off. Stopped him on time. Got his details and make him sign that his company will pay for the damages.
Got a call from his boss, requesting that we settle at his workshop, or he will dispute the insurance claim (Est:$2500). Have to change bumper, check engine. I was angry, as he sounded arrogant. Maybe he wanted to "MAKAN" me b’cause I am a lady. I have the drivers, letter. WHat should I do?

Thks for putting my mind at ease.
