Teck Ghee Primary

Hi Beauty79,
Welcome to the forum and good to hear that you are keen to send your DD to TGPS.
For P1 children who need a little extra help in EL and MT, the school has what its call a Learning Support Program. It supports children in the different subjects. Also the school has a dedicated team of staff and PSG who run a reading program for those who need it.
For P1 MT classes, the child is grouped according to their MT Literacy capability. I believe the teacher group them based on their CA1/SA1 results. Most of the parents will have the same concern as MT is usually not a favourite subject of the child. :nailbite:
There are quite a handful of CL enrichment centres around this area, you can look around and ask for parent's opinion. They are Tien Hsia, Berries, Hua Language Center and Han, just to name a few.
Good Luck to your registration exercise.
Regards,

Hi mummies, I am keen to send DD1 into this school but did not get to find out about their approach to the languages. Can anyone share for P1, is there any reading programme to support reading for both EL and MT? That means are they banded according to reading ability during reading class? Or no graded reading classes at all? For MT, I'm concerned my child may not follow as it's her weakest subject. Anyone send for CL enrichment or what is done in school is satisfactory?

I really hope that Teck Ghee will not need balloting at Phase 2C this year. Noticed many new blocks around the area. I am outside 1 km. If my DD gets confirmed next week, I'll be able to network with you guys

Hi Beauty79,
TGPS has 146 vacancies for 2C. I think the chance of balloting is very low. So we will see you again in this forum soon ;-). -
Hi, I m thinking of sending my kid to TGPS. May I seek comments/advice on the current schoolโs culture and general studentsโ behavior? Does the school focus more on academic results or more on character building/ value system? Or leave it to the students/parents themselves? Heard that the school has programs to train students for public speaking. Is it true? Would it be tough on kids who are naturally shy n introvert?

Hello Grain,
Is your kid due for the upcoming P1 registration or still a few years ahead?
The reason why i am asking is if you have the chance to visit the school personally, you will have a better feel of the environment and students behavior.
Beside academic achievement, the school has a holistic program that works toward grooming the child to be a useful citizen to the society. There are different programs for different levels. My girl has attended some leadership training camp which helps her to become a better organiser. As for Public Speaking, i am not sure of the program, so cannot advice on that.
Recently MOE organised a Parenting forum and TGPS was the host of the event. If you would like to know more about School approaches, may i introduce you to read the link and hope it gives you an insight of the school.

Hehe. Another score for Astee. Haha
Hi Grain,
Not sure if this is what you are referring to but during term 3, the school will conduct enrichedment classes for math and English. The English enrichedment is often focus on speech and drama. This year at P2, the school engages Drama Arts Ltd to teach a course on Readers Theatre that focus on their oral skill as well as drama skill.
Besides academic enrichment, the school also often organize some fun event, like the mooncake festival celebration and parent and child rollerblading event.
Hi Astee,
Will you be going to the rollerblading event on 3 Sept? I am thinking of signing up with DS since both of us do not know how to blade yet. Haha
