Hi all, my child is enrolled for TGPS next year. I received a call from my friend and she advised me to not send my child to TGPS because there are lots of ‘gangsters’ there. Her brother’s son is in P1 this year. Within 3 months they have noticed a change in his behaviour. He has also mastered reciting Chinese poems in vulgar words. They are now trying to transfer him to another school. Does anyone have any insight or similar experience? how does the school discipline the kids? i dont mean to cause any alarm to you parents but am curious if this is a one off incident.thanks.

Let me share a scenario - in a normal technical stream class in secondary school, we see some ‘angels’ around too - nice kids who are of good character and not scheming. They may not fit in well with their class but hard for them to change for the worst. They are a joy to teach. On the other hand, we get some ‘terrible’ kids from good primary schools in the Express stream with parents who help their children get away from punishments when there are wrong-doings so as to have a ‘clean’ record.

My point is you cannot cut off bad influence in your child’s life but you must be involved in guiding your child in his/her education/growing up journey. Problem now is parents expectation of the school n teachers.

            Hi Dahila,

Thanks for sharing. That must be an awful experience for your friend’s brother. My DS is at P2 this year and so far we have not heard or seen incidents like what you have described above. Last year DS met some bullies in the school bus but those were just common bullies which you will see in any school. DS seems to be happy and enjoys his school a lot. When I visit the school, the kids there seems to be quite well behaved. I would suggest your friend’s brother to talk to the school to find out who are the ‘gangsters’ so that the school can take proper action.

Does the son attend after school care too? Any chance those ‘gangsters’ are at the after school care?

Maybe the affected child needs to pull himself away from these boys, which is the tough part as he himself may have enjoyed their company. Usually in a school environment, birds of the same feather flock together. So quiet children befriend other quiet children while wild children befriend their own kind that’s how they have kakis to play pranks. If u are concerned about yr child going into Teck Ghee next yr, just be mindful of who he mixes with.

Well said - Ninijabo, Rejoice and Beauty79! I am in awe admiration of the in-depth explanations and insight views from you guys. :salute:

On a lighter note - my DD attended the NDP Observance Ceremony this morning with the school at Teck Ghee Community Club. The guest-of-honor was PM Lee. Her English teacher was the one leading the pledge reciting. 😄 TGPS Chinese Dance and Choir group were there too for the performance.

May i wish all of you a Happy 47th National Day and enjoy the holidays!

                Cheers,
                astee

                        Dear all,

So fast the NDP long weekend is over and this week is CA2 week cum PSLE Oral examination. How was the holidays for the Kiddos?Especially those pre-P1 parents...still can enjoy during holidays.

Once again we are looking forward to another super-super long weekend : Thurs - Monday (school closure for PSLE cum Hari Raya holiday + in-lieu.)

It will likely be revision schedule for most of the kiddos as PSLE is up & coming and SA2 will be happening soon. 😄

                        Regards,
                        Astee
