Finally received the P2C confirmation letter! Being Kiasu, I am already thinking what kind of black shoes to buy(cheap vs expensive:change often vs lasting), who to find to sew name tag, how many sets of uniforms n PE attires to buy. Was advised to use current stationaries n stuff so it is less heart aching if he loses them in school- sounds bad as it was always an exciting process to bring new things to school on the first day during my schooldays!!!

I received my confirmation too. The letter just states the date and time of registration. Why no other details like what to bring and what to expect like are we buying books and uniform?

I think is the standard paperwork that schools have been using the past many years - really find the admin staff very poor thing must hand write for 100 over copies! I think is ok to miss out anything on that orientation day as the school is still open throughout the Nov Dec school holidays. Is a matter whether the parents are free to make the extra trips. So just be prepared with more cash I supposed. Yesterday I was also caught unaware that I need to pay deposit when I registered my boy for student care!!!

            Hi Beauty79,

Yes, aligning to what Ninjabo mentioned. On Orientation day, you will get all the information regarding to purchase to books/uniforms and what to bring on Day 1 - 3 for the child.

Good thing about TGPS is the bookshop and uniforms vendors are open throughout Nov/Dec 2012 to allow parents to come in to make the purchase, rather than to \"rush and long Q\" on orientation day. Just look out on the dates/time that they are open and your can bring your child along to try out the uniforms sizes.

Enjoy the preparation time and yes, bring lotsa of $$ as no netts/credit card machines available.... 😉

            Regards,
            Astee

              Hi Ninjago and beauty79,

I've received the confirmation letter too! :rahrah:

              Astee/Rejoice,

Need your advise :please: - how many sets of uniform we should get? 3 sets enough? I doubt... they have PE everyday?

                Hi Mng_kl,

So happy to see so many new parents joining the TGPS Forum and looking forward to welcoming all the kiddos to the TGPS Family. 😄

For my children - they have 3 sets of school uniforms + 2 sets of PE attire. Normally i will buy a size bigger, so the uniforms can last them at least 2 - 3 years. This will be subject to your child growth spur...hehe. (My girl managed to wear her unforms from P1-P3, as for my boy, judging at the \"creativity\" of his artistic side, i think the uniforms will last P1-P2. There are many different shade of markers ink on his shirt which was hard to rid-off 🤷 )

The reason for 2 sets of PE attires are because some class have PE lesson on one day and PAL lesson on next day, both required PE attires. They also wear PE attire for Learning Journeys, so 2 sets will be just nice.

                Hi Ninjago,
You are so right about P1 losing their stuff, especially stationaries. One of my GF's daught lost a very expensive pencil case and she was so \"heart-broken\". I meant my GF.... 😂 Try to tag all the items with the child name, there is a Lost & Found Corner near the canteen, so in case if the child really lost anything, they can retrieve it back from the corner. :xedfingers:

Hope this basic information helps to answer the queries.

                Regards,
                Astee

                  Hi Astee,

:thankyou: so much for your warm welcoming and advise.

My DD say she is looking forward and ready to go Primary 1 next year :boogie:

I will be getting DD a self-inking name stamp and stickers ready for her text books and stationeries. Only buying her a 'better' school bag, others like stationeries, can get cheap ones

How much do you give you DD/DS a day (or a week?) if you dont mind sharing

I mentioned to DD that maybe 1st week of school, she could try to buy food from the tuckshop as she may not have time to eat after buying. DD said 'mommy, think I better bring food from home' :please:

Wow, looks like everyone is getting excited about the new chapter of their DD and DS’ lives. Hahaha. Two years ago I was as clueless and excited as all of you. Haha.

Like Astee said, the school will give you information on books, uniform, shoes and school bus vendor. You can actually sign up with the school bus vendor and buy the uniforms on the orientation day if I remember correctly. The school uniform vendor actually sell good black shoes that is cheap and durable. It actually lasted for close to two years now for DS. Haha. I suggest getting two pairs of shoes so they can wear on alternate day. I also sew DS’s name on his shose as they have gymnastic for PAL and they will take out their shoes. Hard to tell which one if they are similar brand and design. Agree with Astee that you will need at least two sets of PE for PE and PAL. My DS’s uniform is also very colorful now. Need to buy a new set for him end of the year when we buy uniform for DS2.

I pack breakfast and lunch for DS daily so he does not need to buy from canteen as he is such a slow decider and eater, hahaha. But the price of food is quite low. For $0.60, a child can get a bowl of noddles. So if they eat lunch and breakfast at school, $1.50 to $2 a day is sufficient. To primary school kids, the bookstore is a shopping mall. They will often go buy stickers or erasers or others from bookstore when they have spare cash ;-). So don’t give too much money.

A tip for school bag. If you interested to buy those ergonomic school bag for your kids, wait for Metro sale in December. You can get Impact Ergonomic school bag for $49 instead of the usual $100+ :-). So far has seen the bag on sale for at least two years in a row now.

Oh one more thing to add, one the first week of school, the school will arrange for a upper primary student to take care of the P1 kids during recess. The upper primary student will bring the P1 boy or gal to canteen and teach them to buy food and help them. So parents can be assured their kiddos are well taken care of ;-).

Many thanks to Astee n Rejoice for so much useful info!!

About misplacing shoes, I have even heard a parent of a Sec 1 pupil complaining to the school about the kid wearing a brand new pair of Adidas shoes on the first few orientation days but coming back with an old pair at the end of the week. Apparently, there was an activity in a special room that required removal of shoes. And upon leaving the room, the 12 yr old could not find her shoes!! There were only a few pairs left so she knew most probably hers were already worn by others. Leaving with no choice, she quietly wore an old similar pair of shoes home and kept mum in case she gets scolded!! Ya it happens to bigger kids too. Was the new shoe finally found : Nope.

Astee - I like the 3 + 2 sets of attire as suggested.

Rejoice - are the shoes sold in school entire canvas or partial like Bata shoes?so do u sew initials on the tongue?
