Hopefully the school can decide quickly to release the confirmed operating hours ASAP so as to allow parents to make arrangements. Just to check if books are sent back regularly for EMT as to allow parents to be informed what topic they are at. It will help if I want to do revision at home. I know of some schools that only send files back 1 week before the test for revision, very hard to go through the weak areas in the last minute. Also, is the weekly spelling part of the holistic assessment?

Hi Astee,
Love your Roadside news! Sure hope that it will come through
I also look forward to additional 30 mins of sleep in the morning if DSs don't have to pack lunch everyday
. Then can plan for a more proper meal for them in the afternoon.
Hi Beauty,
My DS brings back his textbooks regularly. As for files and workbooks, he also brings them back regularly for my signature. So you should be able to know what has been covered during the class. For P1 and P2 students, they normally only have homework during the weekend. You can look at the worksheets during the weekend to know which chapter is being covered that week.
Weekly spelling is a norm in TGPS for English, I believe. For MT, sometimes it depends on the teacher. DS's P1 teacher has weekly MT spelling. But his P2 teacher only have 1 spelling for each unit covered. So it won't be on weekly basic. During MT time, the kids may be split into different classes on the 2nd half of P1 so that kids with similar standard will be taught together to help them to progress.
Oh one more thing. In case you are not aware, it is advisable to photocopy your kid's term report card when they bring back for signature. The school will keep the report card for you and not give back to you till may be P6. -

:goodpost: Useful POST! :thankyou:Wow, looks like everyone is getting excited about the new chapter of their DD and DS' lives. Hahaha. Two years ago I was as clueless and excited as all of you. Haha.
Like Astee said, the school will give you information on books, uniform, shoes and school bus vendor. You can actually sign up with the school bus vendor and buy the uniforms on the orientation day if I remember correctly. The school uniform vendor actually sell good black shoes that is cheap and durable. It actually lasted for close to two years now for DS. Haha. I suggest getting two pairs of shoes so they can wear on alternate day. I also sew DS's name on his shose as they have gymnastic for PAL and they will take out their shoes. Hard to tell which one if they are similar brand and design. Agree with Astee that you will need at least two sets of PE for PE and PAL. My DS's uniform is also very colorful now. Need to buy a new set for him end of the year when we buy uniform for DS2.
I pack breakfast and lunch for DS daily so he does not need to buy from canteen as he is such a slow decider and eater, hahaha. But the price of food is quite low. For $0.60, a child can get a bowl of noddles. So if they eat lunch and breakfast at school, $1.50 to $2 a day is sufficient. To primary school kids, the bookstore is a shopping mall. They will often go buy stickers or erasers or others from bookstore when they have spare cash ;-). So don't give too much money.
A tip for school bag. If you interested to buy those ergonomic school bag for your kids, wait for Metro sale in December. You can get Impact Ergonomic school bag for $49 instead of the usual $100+ :-). So far has seen the bag on sale for at least two years in a row now. -
How many of us here have enrolled our child into P1 next year? We can network and maybe say hi on orientation day

Hi Astee,
A boy sitted in girls' table is a previlege
but to the kid is a punishment :). But I am the old-school thinking parent and I support school teachers' arrangements - and my DS is fully awared
He was a bit disappointed none of his kakis is joining TGPS as his childcare is based in Bishan. I just keep telling him he will make new friends

Hi all,
I was thinking⦠techincally speaking, if school goes back to starting half an hr earlier n minus lunch break, dismissal time will be back to 1.15pm. So was there some concerns that the school mgt had to address such that they pushed back the start time?
I know of some schools which have such arrangements as late-coming was an issue. They opted for easy was out but another group will be caught with the working crowd again i feel. But TGPS being a neighbourhood sch unlikely have kids coming from all over the island I think so I don see relevance here.
Does the sch engage vendors for some curriculum programs that canβt start work earlier than certain timing?
Is there some teachersβ meeting every morning?
Hmmmm? ? ? I wonder? -

Hi Ninjago,Hi Astee,

My gal will also be the only one enrolling into bishan school whilst all her friends and classmates will be in Hougang schools. Not to worry, kids tend to make friends easily. They will have new friends in no time.

Hi rejoice,
TGPS thread has become more and more lively with the new mummies around. How I hope I can also join in.
-
Hi Cmum,
You are welcome to join us :-). Though school is different, the growing pain for primary schools is the same. Can still share notes and encourage each others.
Hi Ninjago,
I also stayed in Bishan but DS1 went to childcare at Alexandra as that is where I work:-p. so none of his K2 good friend is with him and he has to make new friend from day one. But three months after school, all he talked about is his P1 friends and forgot about his K2 friends by six months
so kids can be heartless sometime. Now come DS2. His K2 class is extremely small at Bishan so none of his friends are joining him at TGPS. But I am sure he will do just fine like his brother.
Most of TGPS kids are from neighbor estates. One thing I like about it is that during PTC, I can actually park my car in the campus free of charge
. You can see many kids walk to school everyday. If dismissal is at 1:15pm, I think the school will revert back to start at 7:20am. So kids have to get up a little earlier next year but they will have chance to take nap in the afternoon. I think the impact will be on kids who take school bus to school. They may need to board the bus a lot more earlier as lots of schools start around the same time.
I am not sure about teacher meeting. But for parent teacher meeting, it is often conducted in term 1 and 3. So I will be seeing the teacher again next month for DS1
.
