Hi, so far P1 booklist do not have Eng/Chinese dictionaries, i think when cm to P2 or P3, booklist will list the dictionaries to buy.Hello,
So many ex-RSS students here.
I'm a westerner most part of my school days and only \"migrated\" to the east after marriage.
I am looking for suitable english and chinese dictionaries for my gal going P1 next year. May I ask existing parents with kids in RSS if the school does recommend or require students to use certain common dictionaries e.g. merriam webster, longman, etc ?
If not, any good recommendations on dictionaries ? -

HB suggest TPE, Tampines Ave 10, then either Tampines Ave 1 or Bedok North Rd, both roads going into Bedok Reservoir Rd to get into Bedok North Ave 3. Seems that some parents using this way to go home and claimed jam-free..... :idea:Thank you all for sharing! I am old girl, graduated 1988.
Constancet...I am FTWM
The school dismiss so late? I thought at 6pm and latest by 6.15 after assembly. I was quite worried I can't make it in time to fetch him haizzzz
Anyone know the nearest and no traffic jam route from punggol to Bedok(specifically Bedok North Ave 3 as student care is there)in the morning? We will probably leave house at 8am. The usual route we are taking now during non peak hours are KPE exit Old Airport road, but route is heavily jam during the morning peak. -
Thanks Taurus!!
Any p2 or p3 parents here can advise? -
Hi Hi, I am also an old gals from RSS. Graduated in 1987. Just to check, whetehr anyone found that the standards of RSS has dropped compared to those old days of ours?
Heard from some of the friends that the principal is not as good as our days of Mr Wong, etcβ¦
Any current parents of RSS could comments? -

Thank's dicky! I am not worried about the evening jam, more worrying is the morning jam. From punggol going out to TPE also problematic, but we hv not go that way since KPE open, so now probably better.

We heard too, but no one provide any concrete references to follow up on these hear-say. Standard drop or not, it had always been one of the better schools around. Yet it had never been a school for the elite or such.Hi Hi, I am also an old gals from RSS. Graduated in 1987. No offfense meant, we decided RSS solely because the nearest Primary Sch at our ex-home in Simei is Changkat primary which standard, unfortunately isnt to our satistaction.
If there are better and more recognised schools near your home within 1 km, great! Best of luck in Phase 2B (PV) or Phase 2Ca.

Hi Dicky,
Thanks for your comments. I am in dilema as i am staying SK and in fact, staying next to Nan Chiau Pri which is also quite a good pri school. However, going to Nanchiau although 1km, is not gurantee too. We had applied to do PV in nanyang too but it is not gurantee and need to shift hse to BT. So going to RSS, is a more confirmed and gurantee one and hubby is looking at the academic result too.
Selection of school is such a big headaches. A lot of the old boys and gals whom we know also comments that the standard had dropped but we do not know the facts too. -

We understand that. My sis-in-law also commented that, but hear-say. She lived near Buangkok MRT and sent her kids to North Vista Pri walking distance as both HB and her work with no parental support. Every time hear her complain scared her kids cannot do well in PSLE in future as school dun give her kids homework to bring home....Hi Dicky,

Both schools you mentioned are schools for elite based on statistics and surveys, which include the likes of ACS where my nephews are based. Such schools you probably need to do PV and best live within 1 km from school, as balloting are likely even in Phase 2B.
For our case, we just tried to manage our expectation within our limits. We first heard about drop in standard. We backtrack and considered RSS within the rank of top neighbourhood school strong in cultural roots, with lesser likelihood of bad peer influence. We are comfortable with his, so we go ahead. Also we are not comfortable to stretch our health and hinder work, to do PV just to get a chance. DS not bright anyway.
Here we sincerely wish you the best, will be glad if your kids can get in Nan chiau or Nanyang. It means your grand children is virtually guaranteed a place in the schools too....
