Based on my understanding from last year's batch of P4 GEP, the school try to group those coming from same school in the same class, to reduce the impact of changing schools, as there are only 2 girls (1 from HPPS and another from other school), they put them together. Other than that, it is quite random. Anyway, the 2 classes get together quite often, they seems to know each other by the end of 1 year. This year, they reshuffle the class again so my DS is in the other class now.

Hi TwaTau,
Thks for sharing. During last yr school tour, the HOD told us tt those from HPPS, will be splitted equally into the 2 classes, and kids from other schools will join in either classes. hmmm... so the 2 classes will re-shuffle again for P5? That's good. Kids do mixed around well and I already heard my DS mentioned names from other class e.g. MT class etc.
He seems to be enjoying himself so far... Just hope the way it is till Feb whereby I know more will be added. Received the family-tree thingy project overview and DS, being a shy boy, will have fun talking to uncles and aunties during CNY
.
Can u share if there is anymore fun projects/challenges coming for P4? -
Hi parents,
Any parent here taking school bus from johnson? DS stayed back on Mon for CCA till 5pm and given this is not the normal timing of 1pm, they charge us $5 per trip, as what is agreed back in Dec when we engaged them... only yesterday, when i wanna fixed a regular pick up schedule i.e. every Mon 5pm, and Fri (starting in Feb) they told me that it is now $8 per trip... This worked out to be an additional $16 per week, $64 for a mth, on top of the mthly school bus fee.
This seems like daylight robbery to me. Based on past experience, they should be awared of CCA ending at 5pm, the traffic condition around 5 plus, and shouldn't quote me $5 per trip back in Dec. Is this just to get me on board to their service, knowing well that I also called other school bus providers? :stupid:
Now we need to re-plan his logistic arrangement, with my wife potentially picking DS up on every Mon/Fri instead. -

We help out quite a bit on DS's family tree project last year as we have quite a big extended family. The challenging part is they have to request for birth cert, marriage cert, of everyone going into the project. This is organize into a folder. Some of his uncle and aunties were concern about confidentiality and we gotten the reassurance from his SS teacher on this. Marks are allocated on the organization of the materials as well.Hi TwaTau,

You will get quite a lot of challenges from the maths and science worksheet throughout the year, not just from the project. After the family tree, we stop helping on project and DS did most of it on his own after that, too much work for us, :siao: Beside project, they participate in Maths competitions organized by RI, NUSH, etc, although some of which are for P5 and P6, just to give them exposure. They also have to make team presentation on science project, and you can hear my DS on the phone, coordinating who do which part of the project. There are fun stuff as well, such as a competition among the GEP schools on a computer game call \"gut feel\" or something related to the digestive system. -

This was my headache last year. Pay for a month but we hardly took the school more than once per week. End up my wife have to take over my car to fetch DS, and me got to take public transport to work. :x Even if you want to pay, it also depends on the availability and your kids may not get a slot.Hi parents,

After the 3rd semester last year, we gave up the school bus altogether and DS took public transport. We were apprehensive at first as he has cross ulu-pandan road. It was a quick way for them to grow up and we have to let go ourselves somehow. Luckily for us, he has one of his classmate taking the same bus, and he enjoys the freedom of taking public bus now and we just let it be. -

Is true that P5 is even more hectic than P4? How's your DS coping? Does he need to sleep very late, now that he may have more to handle? -

The year started quite peacefully, the workload seems to be still there, but DS managed. Maths is still full of numbers question,
and yesterday, DS brought back a English worksheet which we can't even help.
But he is still sleeping at his usual time of about 10.30pm.
We wanted a more holistic learning for my \"sport challenged\" DS, so even it is kind of late at P5 to join, we are encouraging him to join the scout. The scout master gave us a good impression with his presentation on the activities they have. I think my DS can still manage on top of his academic work. -

It is a challenge to park there. I will suggest you park at the Caltex petrol stations and get your child to call once they are ready to be pick up. They have close off the bus gate and that really limit the place you can park.
