In general, MA refers to Mixed Ability 😉 .

HA is straightforward. Mixed Ability - what are the criteria? :?

What does mixed ability means? Does the school tell you which class your kid is in - HA and not HA etc?

If in HA (High Ability), will be notified by school.

I don't know about other levels, but for P3, we were only informed of the classes that our kids are allocated to and not HA or MA,etc. We guessed what are the HA classes based on where the top 5 achievers fm the P2 classes are streamed to. Later I learnt that for this year's P3, there are 4 classes with a mix of the top kids and the next tier, in each class. Hence, there is no 1st, 2nd , 3rd and 4th classes (unlike prior years) but a mix of HA kids in all 4 classes. For the rest of the 7 MA classes, I think they are allocated to classes based on their P2 results. Note that there are many kids I know who scored in the 80-90+ range in MA classes so they probably just missed the HA class requirement. There is basically no difference in P3 HA or MA classes except that the teachers probably teach at a faster pace in the HA classes and competition is very very firece!

this is the official classification of \"high ability\" learners

some parents and schools may have used it too loosely

by definition, it is a group that misses out in the GEP selection but must have done relatively well in the second round test

in NYPS, it is about 2 to 3 classes from pri 4 onwards
I remember Mrs Lee mentioned that MOE would provide a list of those students and they would be grouped in the same class(es). The school has to follow the list strictly. Those students would involve in some GEP projects.

For P3 this year, HA classes are 3I, 3E,3F and 3G.

For P4, I thought Mrs Lee mentioned that the top few % who missed the GEP (top 1%) will be grouped as ‘intermingling’ and fm this year’s P4 slide presentation (in sch website), I read that this gp of student is allocated in the classes together with the GEP kids. They take similar subj with GEP kids except Math, Sc and Eng.

Whereas for streaming of HA & MA classes, it will be based purely on P3 results and not GEP selection, isn’t it?
