My son didn't have tons of homework in P1/2 but definitely there was homework everyday + 听写/默写 (P2). So I am a parent conditioned with a mindset to expect CA/SA.FQW:
Wonder why the change for lower primary too. My boy had tons of work to finish almost everyday.. Plus tests n exams n all those projects .. Never seems to end..
The against camp - made up the majority of PH parents here, I think - feels that the 'wakeup' call at end P2 will be too late.
Even amongst my friends who claim to be non-kiasu, if I analyze their actions carefully, I find that they are also very involved. So I think the risk of that culture shock at end P2 is low.
Daughter's school doesn't believe in honeymoon at P1...last year, she had tests every 10 weeks
and from those tests, I realized she is on the slow side.
I wonder if P1 in PH also has test very 10 weeks?
i feel that weekly moxie/tingxie is very important for children in English environment becos that's the only time they are forced to study and memorize Chinese words. having this regular weekly pressure can only be good to ingrain the words into memory. -

So finally the math olympiad training is here. And it seems to be offered to all who were in TTLT math in P4? Will your son be going for the school MO training since you said he goes for the math hub one? Mine will opt out the school MO training since it will become like repetition...
not so serious lahjanet_lee88:
IMO, this relaxed practice going on in PH is not a wise thing for the kids...they are sitting comfortably on a cold chair...then suddenly their bums are heated with SA2 preparation, CL spelling/dictation, and loads of homework to be completed everyday. It's a physical and mental shock.
Art, Social Studies, Music exam, Maths worksheets + workbook etc etc :siao:

For me, i m glad that p1/2 r a little slower so my son can play catch up n i can concentrate on other aspects like values, attitudes without the intense pressure to get grades.
This yr in p2 they r slowly increasing the amt of tingxie n spelling. Longer sentences to prep them for moxie. I doubt the sch is not kancheong, but i think they r building up momentum
Its too ingrained in the system la -
dyh,
Great that school is starting MO training earlier at P4. So if my ds has an inkling for Math come P3, he can then get MO training in sch and i can save money. If he doesn't have any Math inkling, then he doesn't need MO training and I can save money too.
Mrsbongz,
DS came back from T&F 'boosting' about his physical prowess. He wants to give it a shot at the school team.
That got dw excited - funny she's quite bochap with anything academic. As for me, I think if ds really has the genes for running, it'll be a shame not to capitalize on it. I'm waiting patiently to see how this chapter of ds's life unfolds. -

It's impossible that Pei Hwa is NOT kancheong...given the academic driven culture all these years. -

i did not make myself clear. The MO training only starts in P5. but as i understand, only those who are in M1 class in P4 the previous year are selected.dyh,

My boy did not attend last year TTLT Maths. I did not hear any sch organised MO P5 from him. He has opted out of this year TTLT EL & MA too. I hv also pulled him out of Maths Hub this year.Jennifer:
