my son is in p5 this year.

yes, the school talks about character building being important but to me more have been emphasize on academic.

son does have some classmates who are foreigner. there’s no concern at all about family background or wealth. he has more classmates staying in HDB than private actually.

he also has lots of home work at times. worst before the SAs as they have to complete the topics that need to be tested…

          hi Shandee,

yes, it’s true that psle preparation starts at p5. but, for rvps, supplementary classes starts from p2 i think. even when son was in p4, he had to stay back every tues and thurs for supplementary classes.

ya… actually around rvps area (tiong barhu, queenstown etc) there’s no ‘better’ sec sch. highest is GESS which entry score of ~>220…

            Mmh.....wat does the term \"supplementary\" n \"remedial\" means??
Supplementary classes meant to help the avg student be better?
            Are these lessons helpful?

Oh...GESS entry point to pretty on the low end.... Oh dear, limited choices for sec schools....

              hi Shandee,

sup suppose to be extra lesson whiile remedial is to help the weaker students.

are they helpful? i don’t know…think they use the periods to cover the syllabus and not extra drilling…i think…

yes, very limited indeed. if wanna get into good schools, will have to travel. there’s a crescent girl there but it’s a girls school so too bad for my son…

Score of 245 is very high. Easily can go to the following.

                St Nicholas Girls' School
                Cedar Girls
                Catholic High
                Victoria
                ACS
                Anderson Sec

Score > 250 will land you at

                Nanyang Girls' High School
                RGS
                RI
                Dunman High
                HCI
                RVHS
                MGS
                SCGS

Got to be realistic and don't stress the kid too much for such a high expectation. If the kid can perform then be it 😄

Think there are also other \"better\" sec sch with score below 245

Guess, my friend has quite a high standard then....... 😂[/quote]every yr around Sep, all P6 kids will be given a sec school selection guide book from MOE, there will be full descriptions of all the sec schools (eg location, strengths etc). The minimum cut off points for the previous batch of PSLE students admitted the school will be listed to help in selection of sec schools. If you are keen to see what are the scores like for schools on an informal basis, look at the threads in PSLE and Sec school selection, some parents share the cut off pts of the schools their kids get admitted to. Hope this helps 🙂
