Hi KTP,
Thanks for the sharing!
May I know if the school allows parents to enter the school together with the child on 1st day of school and are we allow to watch them during recess time in the 1st few days?
May I also ask if the expectations from the school is high? For instance, should already know basic grammar well, simple short story writing, strong hypy?
:thankyou: -
Hi
Parents are allowed to stand 'outside' the canteen, they will fence up the canteen. There will be a buddy assigned to them for the first there days, helping them to buy food. Those who have pre-order the food will be taken care by the teachers ( there are assigned tables for these groups of pupils.
There will be no major exam like CA or AS, but many topical bite size tests. Yes I would think pupils are expected to know basic grammar rules and be able to read. There will be no composition test but pupils will be doing some writings in class. For P1 usually they have show and tell, listening and written tests ( written test on usual stuff like grammar, vocab, comprehension etc).
Chinese, first half year will be mainly on hypy, spelling test will solely on hypy. By second half, pupils will be allocated to higher Chinese, enrichment and core Chinese etc. ( totally disagree they do streaming in p1 June).then another streaming at year end.
Not sure if there were changes after my boy's time, but above were our experience

Hi KTP
I also agree by june do streaming to higher chinese is abit too fast but is this streaming at june standard v high?
You know how is the class allocated at P1 ist day of school? -
Hi
If I am not wrong, pupils above 85 will go to higher Chinese, followed by enrichment, core ( so called the normal class) then bridging. Higher Chinese will have different textbook, thus don’t buy 1B Chinese textbook first. They will stick to the class for P2 after year end streaming. ( during Chinese class, the pupils will move to different class).
We should know which class during orientation day, if I recalled correctly, we will get the name tag on that day. On the first day, we are only allowed to bring the kids to the foyer, the teacher will bring them up to the hall. There should have 8 classes in total, 30 pupils per class. -
