Thought the P1 intake has been fixed at 240 (or is it 280 ?) since the year we balloted for our DS1 in 2005 ?

I remembered the year before they had more students per class but decided to reduce the number from that year onwards.
There will be extra enrolment of around 40 for GEP intake in P4 plus maybe some transfer in for various reasons.

I think it is because it has only one twinning class instead of two since last year.

From what I know : the P6 twinning class this year is divided into 2 tag classes 6 tag 1 and 2 and 2 gep classes (6 tag 3 and 4)for english, maths and science. For Social Studies and Chinese there will be three classes, 6 GJ and K, and the tag pupils are mixed with the gep pupils.

Their P1 intake is 240 (8 classes of 30 pupils) when my son was in P1 in 2008. Then come P4 they will take in about 30 plus to 40 for GEP, and plus minus transfers in and out the final figure is about 280. I believe for earlier years the P1 intake was bigger hence the total enrolment for P6 was larger in previous years.

From this year 2011 onwards, the twinning class for P4 is reduced to 1 class (TAG 1) while GEP has 2 classes (TAG 2 & 3). Their form class still remains as 3 classes - 4G, H, J.

Number of twinning class does not affect student population.

Students in twinning class only comes from Nan Hua itself, unlike GEP where there is intake of other students.

I believe there was a reduction in P1 intake from 280 to 240 in 2005.

I was monitoring the situation eagerly that time and was really worried when it happened.
Luckily DS1 managed to get a place thru balloting.

                  Hi,

Thanks all… Went to check the balloting history. Indeed the intake reduced from 270 to 240. Which means full P6 cohort should be 320 in earlier years and 290 in recent years. Looking at its past P6 graduating students statistics, its P6 cohort has not been full except for last year.

Ermm.. i think you are assuming that the school takes in 50 GEP kids every year to bump up the enrolment to 320 or 290? You are forgetting that the school can only offer the remaining GEP places to children from other schools only after catering for its own students who were also selected for the program.

Hello, Ngbrdad, do you mean all the students in twining class are from NanHua? Based on what result?
I heard Nanhua gets the best students from other schools into twinning class also.
                      Thanks.

                        Hi,

Just to check, do we need to buy the dictionary, mini science encyclopedia, transparencies & ring files as stated in the P4 GEP book list ? Is it a must ? Can we buy somewhere else ? Must have school logo is it on these items ? Thanks.
