millan:
How many from GE, twining and mainstream among the top 20?Zann:
Are the top few PSLE students this year from GEP, Twning or mainstream?
Yes GEP
Anyone know if the school combine twining and mainstream in their P5/6 Edusave top 10% scholarship award? Or treat them as different stream? -

2centsworthy, tks for the figures.
do u know how did the mainstream students fare?
btw, what is twinning? TIA. -
Twinning - after GEP screening… those who did not qualify MAY qualify for twinning. Twinning is a program whereby the higher ability Kids (who did not qualify for GEP) basing on their Maths & Science results MAY BE selected to join twinning classes. I heard MOE may give out letters to the kids in other schools to offer them the choice of joining Nan Hua for the twinning classes. There were about 50 children all in all and the first batch passed out this year. Quite a few of the kids were from other schools. Those from Nan Hua were given the OPTION to OPT out of the twinning.
In twinning, the children will be in the form classes with gifted kids for all subjects EXCEPT Math, English and Science. They will do exactly the same for all the other subjects. They usually have very good teachers (HODs and some get gifted teachers for science or English). I was told that some of the worksheets used in twinning are exactly the same as the gifted kids. Twinning kids get to do all social studies portfolio and exams. Social studies exam results I was told are graded A B C but GEPers are based on actually marks. Twinning kids do the same Higher Chinese GEP worksheets… heard that it is not that good as the mainstream kids have more worksheets etc so no need for a lot of tuition. Most Twinning kids that used to get Band 1… when going into Twinning got Band 3 or immediately got to go for remedial.
The twinning kids are still refered to as "mainstream" and the next best class this year after the twinning class is F class. what I heard is the principal said that all the twinning kids did very well… and F class yes they did well… but not the other 5 classes. F class is banded for Maths & Science too. This year PSLE results weightage seems to be very high on Maths & Science since it is very tough… many did not complain about Science but was told that actually it was very tricky. The other mainstream classes in Nan Hua goes like this - E class TOP 1 to 40 (after excluding F class kids)… D class TOP 41 to 80… A, B, C classes are average class. The teachers work very hard in Nan Hua and very good teachers were given to A B C classes too.
On the whole, from feedback from my friends in Nanyang, Catholic High, Raffles Girls… results went down. Tao Nan seems to have rather good results.
Hope the above helps all those in Nan Hua. -

What was the average T-score of the twining class this year? and What T-score are the top 10 in F to A class ? How many DSA offered received by twining and F class respectively this year? -
Just don’t understand why the GEP and twining class pupils only do HCL in this school at P5 and 6? Why can’t they have both since they also need to prepare for PSLE eventually? Is they HCL CA , SA format kind of a mix of CL and HCL or same as mainstream HCL?
Is this the only GEP centre which allow non-GEP students to do GE stuff like porfolio and SS ? What are the other GEP schools’ arrangement like? -

Hi
My girl in GEP P6 next year. Any ideas whether will Nan Hua teacher brief them on how to prepare for the DSA like portforlia or interviews.
Any idea what types of questions they will be asking. Is GEP students stand a better chance.
Tks -
Hi
My son will be in 1G next year. Any parent with child having the same class. Would like to make friends with parents having the same class . -
Hi 2centsworthy,
Thanks for the detailed information! Glad to hear that good teachers are also assigned to mainstream classes. Now pri sch so complicated, during my time much simpler to understand.
