Yah... was concerned if we'll encounter another issue of teacher going on maternity leave and it's near SA2???? That is more worrying.

But she probably gathered must be from parents

She is non-chinese so with the dress it's deceiving.

          What is FT???

Personally, I feel that it is perfectly fine for teachers to get pregnant and contribute to the population growth. As a woman, can perfectly understand when they need to take off if there are complications etc…

But from a parent’s perspective, I feel that the school should also make other appropriate arrangement so that it will minimise disruptions to the class.
          * Eg. for pregnant teachers, they should not be form teacher so as not to affect the class when she goes on maternity leave. They should probably re-allocate pregnant teacher to handle relief teaching instead. But again it depends on how pregnant they are.
          * No discrimination to lower primary students. But for upper primary students, situations of such should be minimise as their "risk" is higher and the work get heavier and more complex.
          * Instead of having the same teacher teach all 3 subjects (eg. EL, Maths and Science) as observed in P3, they should probably spread out to different teacher in charge of different subject/ with specialisation. So that if the teacher is away due to maternity, only 1 subject is affected and not all 3.

            FT=form teacher

As for Pt #3, I think from the sch’s pt of view, it is hard to train a teacher to be specialised in a particular subject. I wonder how many teachers are specialised in a subject in MBS. 1D should be having 1 of the EL specialised tr.

              MMM,

what’s S&D and this teacher, is she good? For CL streaming, they will be streamed into different ability levels at SA1? Does that mean they will be stuck there for the rest of their time in MBS? Thanks so much for your advice!

ya la ..for female teacher, parent will be worried if they will go for maternity leave and for young male teacher, parent will be worried if they will go for long reservist leave... when my ds was in p3, the science teacher was changed for 4 times...and the last one got leg fractured but still come to teach with a bandage alamak....

Hey MMM, IMHO, specialised teaching at younger ages not so good. I think that teachers get to know the kids more if they teach them for all subjects and can have strong bonds with them.

                      Hi,

Just to clarify. I wasn’t thinking of "specialised" teaching as in teacher only know 1 subject and specialised in that. I am fine with teacher coping with all 3.

But rather, I would prefer my child to have different teacher for different subject. As compared to having 1 teacher for all 3 subjects. If the teacher is down, then all 3 subjects are affected.

S&D is speech & drama. The teacher is in her 60's and she is good. In fact, most of her students are from SAP school and not limited to MBS only. My dd's CL teacher told me that this teacher has produced national level talent. She sees more results from this teacher as compared to SHHK S&D classes. I was asking her for feedback on SHHK course.

Another parent I know who has a P6 daughter in MBS has been with this teacher since P1. The mum told me that the daughter usually score full marks for her oral exam.

My kids only joined her in mid last year. I attended their performance (P1 - Lower Sec) and I was really impressed with the quality of her students. They were able to say rao kou ling and kuai ban well. I invited a friend as we are keen to let our K1 start with this teacher early. The 1st question she asked me was.... is the teacher/ kids from China? It's the level of spoken mandarin that the kids exhibit during the performance that was awesome. But it's funny like my son. He would speak \"good\" chinese during her class but outside that, it's \"normal\" chinese.

Yes, CL streaming is based on their ability. The 1st streaming is after P1 SA1. Next change is after P1 SA2 results. Then in P2, they will be stream again after P2 FY results. It changes every year based on their FY results.
