      Angelmom:
I've just registered my son in Monfort Junior and when I told friends and relatives about my decision, all of them were disappointed and disapproved. The school seems alright to me but I wonder why so many people so bias against it?

      Hi Angelmom,

Dont have to worry too much. Like what other parents said, this sch in the past did very well and the standard is very good. Now that the standard had dropped and no longer the same as before especially the secondary level.

Yours is in P1 next year, do not worry too much. Newbies in the school will still behave and well descipline. But do remind your son to maintain and not influence by peers. If you really worry, try changing him to others. But all newbies in the school there will be good and playful ones. There will never be bad ones. My son is in one of the top school, for the 1st 3mths/ 1st term of the school. The kids were still very playful as they need time to adjust and adapt to long hours \"freedom\" with out parents. So, as time pass. They will be more settled after the new term starts.

Hi, I have a P5 boy in MJS. So far, I do not have any complaint against the school. Agree that in term of academic excellence, MJS is not at the top. But the school does produce well rounded students who are strong in both academic and sports. I will be very concern if MJS is labelled as a "bad boys" school. Being a boys school, expect to have some playful and mischievous kids around. I am not being bias and try to be consistent in my view only on MJS (no comment for the sec sch).

As I stay just next to Rosyth primary, I can tell you the behaviour of some parents are worst than their kids, visit the school during dismissal time and you will know why. . .

NB : I will be very sad if the thread started for the sole purpose of sharing only negative comment on the school, then this will be my last post . .

buzybuzz... it is because of your very presence in this thread that give help balance the view of people who have may have negative views of the school. Imagine what will happen if no one stand up to state their views on Montfort based on their actual experiences? That fact that you take pains to counter the negative views already give pause to those who may think that the school is all bad.

buzybuzz…thank you so much for your comments. Please don’t give up on this thread as your input really help us to get a better view of MJS. As Chiefkiasu said you are helping to balance out the views expressed in this forum. Please feel free to tell us more about MJS (i.e., pros and cons of the school, teachers’ performance, cca, etc.). I’m sure parents of prospective students of MJS would really appreciate any feedback you may have. Thank you!

I've been to Montfort Junior & Sec (accompany students) and I personally find that their boys are polite & I see alot of initiative in the boys. Boys will be boys, they will be mischevious & sometimes disruptive.

So far the students I know from Montfort are all well-rounded students who do well (maybe not top top top type, but good enough to go to a decent course in local uni) & I've very good impressions of them.

This is one of my shortlisted schools too (MSHS is my first choice, this is my 2nd). I also recommend parents to consider Montfort Sec as one of their choices for boys taking PSLE. You need to physically visit the school a few times before you can make a decision 🙂 It's good to visit during normal school days & during events. You'll be surprised at how good the boys are when it comes to organising school events!

Thanks to parents for contributing the feedback. I personally dun think tht Monfort is ‘naughty boy’ sch as well.

As a lot of people mentioned, ALL BOYs environment is nosiy and rowdy. There may be some Sec boys that we had seen with unfavourable behaviour in the neighborhood , But open your eyes, this occurs in other schs as well - sure there will be a bunch with unfav behaviour that wants to seek attention.

Monfort is one of my 2nd choice, but now my agony is should i travel all the way down fr SK to HG if I cant get into my first choice in SK area.
I thought the advantage of near a sch is very impt so that my children can enjoy their pri sch days and participate in any CCAs they like ( I am a working mum so encounter transport difficulty to let child stay back after sch for CCAs when they are young)

My first choice is River Vale pri. So it really depends on our luck now.

I understand that there is a new principal at Montfort. Would someone please comment on how this new principal is? Also, how are the teachers there? Are they good, motivated, patient, and nurturing? I’ve seen some very impatient and not very nurturing teachers in a neighborhood school that really makes me worry about the type of teachers teaching our children.
