I really want to come on the first day, but parents can't take the Alan bus. It will take me a while to get there through public transportation after I see him off... he'll be in class by the time I get there. Not to mention, I have another kid to get to a different school. :scratchhead:

expatmom, maybe just for the 1st day, if you want to "follow" the bus, you can book a cab? since the school is quite near, the charges may not be too high.

are you able to drop dd off before him? if not, is your dh able to take leave on the 1st day?

dh took leave on the 1st day and he followed the bus in the car, and he told me later that other parents had the same idea too!!! cos he was behind this other car that was trailing the school bus and when the school bus was stuck in one HDB estate after ours, and had to reverse, the other car reversed too, and he also reversed. and then the whole line of cars (ok lah, not very long line, but still…) followed the bus again.
              very funny right?? hahaha

i followed ds2 to school cos it was his 1st day too.

then after dropping ds2, i joined ds1 in his school for a talk. i left after the 9.30am recess cos he was absolutely happy with his buddy and tr and classmates and didn’t seem to need me around.

didn’t go the rest of the week though i think parents are allowed the 1st week.

Actually bus 185 is more convenient than 157. It's a shorter walk and you don't have to climb up and down the stairs to cross the street.

I can get DH to bring my other kid to school, but I would still need to walk to the bus stop and it could take 15 minutes for the bus to show up. Unless I took a cab... hrm... I could potentially do that. I would have to call one after the bus arrives (to make sure he catches the bus first) so there would be a little bit of a delay...

When the kids get to school on the first day, where do they go? Straight to class? Will they be guided by people waiting for them to get off the bus? If I took a cab that was 5-10 min behind the bus, I may not be able to find him anyway to see him off by the time I get to school.

                Hrm. :scratchhead:

185 doesn't come to my place, sob sob.

After picking your ds, the bus will still move along to pick others, so you will still be in time, cos your cab takes you straight to school.

When it was my time, the Orientation papers said to meet at the school hall with the form teachers. There'll be prefects holding the class placard up so the kids can't miss their class. They'll gather there (not with the rest of the school at assembly, so it is not chaotic for the P1s) and the teachers bring them to their classrooms from there. That was for only the 1st week.

So you could find them there in the hall I guess, if they are doing the same thing in 2011?

I got there late, so I went to the classroom to peek, but I stood quite far away cos I didn't want ds to see me. 🙂 Some parents stood right at the back door of the classrooms and when the kids come out to queue to go on the guided tours, the parents followed closely, everywhere and kept trying to talk to their kids.

I think it depends on the kids' nature, I guess. Some kids like that attention, but my ds is the type who would be extra self conscious if I hover around him so I try to watch him from a distance. 🙂

I noticed that the teachers didn't bother what the parents did for that first day. They pretty much tolerate any type of behaviour, I guess they understand. haha.

So excited for the first day… I will be driving down after my dd pick up by the transport. As the pick up time is 6.50am so early, think I got enough time to go down…

Will u all be staying in the school till the end of school??
Oh ya, would like to check whether the bookshop n the uniform supplier will be there first day? Coz they gave wrong items n size. Wanna do a change…

Thanks Champion for the info btw, why some classes dont have Co-FT?

I am not sure also - what I can see like for this year, my gal FT is only teaching her Maths so the Co-FT is the EL teacher. And I realise that if the FT is a CL/ML teacher (where besides their name there is a *), most have co-FT.

Also they have uploaded the pic of the new Principal 🙂 Looks young, pretty & stern
