My kid in P4 now. Seems like covid really threw them a curve ball for Science and Math. Compared to his older siblings, the things he learned are quite surface only.

          Hi,

Can I check what are the chances of getting in if we are former students (Phase 2A) but not staying within 1km?
          Thanks in advance!

As we are losing 20 places from Phase 2A, under our simulation, I can only tell you that Rulang was oversubscribed in the last 4 out of 5 years. The oversubscription last year was slightly lower, but it did require balloting within 1km. In 2020, the oversubscription was higher, but balloting was for those within 1-2km.

So your chance for Rulang depends on the number of parents competing within 1km. I don't think Rulang can escape balloting this year, and I think it will likely be for those living within 1km. Why don't you just try for the school? You can always try again in later stages.

Do the upper primary students know if their classes are top classes?

Are there still schools that tell parents/students which class(es) are top classes?

                Hi,

Is this school a highly sought after? In terms of building children character/moral and achieving good academic . How is the overall school vibes (positive?)
I understand the 2A may still need ballot but am thinking if I should move nearer.
Or is there any parent actually drive >30 mins just to send their children to Rulang?
                Thanks!

                  You must be new here.

Here's the historical snapshot of Rulang during each year's P1 registration.

                  https://i.imgur.com/IBKx6pS.png\">

                  Under the \"balloting\" columns:
                  0 - No balloting
3.5 - Cut off for PR at <1km
                  4 - Ballot for SC at >2km
                  5 - Ballot for SC at 1-2km
5.5 - Cut off for SC at 1-2km
                  6 - Ballot for SC at <1km
                  6.5 - Cut off for SC <1km

As you can see, the last 2 years have been particularly troubling for Rulang as the Phase 1 registrations have exploded all the way to 148 from slightly over 100. Phase 2A(2) started having to ballot... 61 going for 26 places!
And Rulang has required any who wants to come in at Phase 2C to be <1km since we started monitoring in 2006.

If you want a chance to ballot for Rulang in Phase 2C, you have to move within 1km of the school. Remember, at odds of getting a place of 92 applicants versus 20 places, I think those are very poor odds. You may think now it has increased to 40 places. Don't forget, the extra 20 places comes from Phase 2A and 2B. People who don't get a place then will join Phase 2C.

                  Good luck.

Yes, am new and got overwhelmed by \"school ranking\" and registration.
Balloting will be unavoidable and sounds like moving is needed to increase the probability.
Family plays an important role but school environment as well, especially the kid spends a good portion of their time in school.
I also like to seek some insights on why Rulang is popular. Is it just an academic-driven system or it is able to provide a robust moral and character building system and thus leading to good academic result.

Definitely need a lot of good luck. Thanks.

I will share my experience as a mom to a Sec 1 boy this year (graduated in 2023). Still have a P4 girl and youngest in nursery 2.

If you’re looking for a holistic environment that balances grades and overall character development, Rulang is definitely my choice. The commitment from teachers my boy has had is exceptional, and given a choice to choose again, it’s Rulang for sure.

We moved to Yishun two years back and continued to travel to the school. We managed to transfer my girl to a nearby popular school in her P3 year. After a year of having two kids in two different schools, I can only say the difference is clear, from the amount of commitment from teachers, planning of holistic development programmes, discipline, character and resilience building etc. Despite the distance, we are now back to Rulang in P4 and will be looking to move back so that my youngest can also be in Rulang.

I can never be thankful enough for the positive parent-teacher collaboration through my kid’s growth over the years.
