Hquek, PSG lived on passion, we thrive on postive outcomes from organization/ participation in School events. Good to hear you had a good experience with us.
Besides networking and sharing, you are also ‘quietly’ promote positives values too. Above all, your children are watching you (quietly).
Check with DD… did DD tease you after our "Wind Beneath My Wings" Performance? -
erm, mine is DS, and no. He only said cannot hear me - arbuthen.

hi all
u know how there sometimes is a "norm", which sec sch majority of the school goes to? Is there a "preferred" sec sch most HWS tend toward?
tq -
hi dimension,
Think this is hard to say. Generally I think they may gravitate towards the sec schools in the vicinity - but this is my empty thoughts only. Ultimately our own kids are individuals and should be seen in that aspect. If a child is on the strong spectrum, saying that HWS kids tend to go to Lousy Secondary is pointless. Similarly, saying HWS kids tend to go to Superstar Secondary won’t be telling for a child who’s academically weak.
So far what I know is that there are very strong kids and very weak kids in the school - entire spectrum where academic strength is concerned. and that the primary focus of the principal (and therefore should filter down) is not on academics but on moral values.
hope this helps. -
Hi dimension,
Are you indirectly trying to guage the PSLE score range?
My memory fails me, did you register this yr or are you a PV for next year registration?
Let me share with you my experience. The comments that I have rec. when I told people that I have registered at HWS is that it's a good school. Does this set your mind at ease?

hmmm, to be honest, my kid only in P1, so I can’t say for sure. But based on what I hear, academically, they are not that strong (thinking NYPS type of strong); but definitely the stress is on moral values.
I’m interested in ensuring my kid fares well academically, so I just work on that aspect with him. Hopefully he’ll get something out of our (school and mine) combined efforts. -
Guess the criteria for a good school can be different and subjective. Still it's comforting when the initial reaction from people is positive rather than errrrr... that school ah.....

Let me share my dilemma. I’m actually trying to decide between HWS n SCGS. Neither school has strong academic focus. I hope for my kids a well rounded education and to me that’s beyond grades. These two schools seem v different n yet similar in many ways making it hard to choose.
I like SCGS IP system (hence qn on sec sch heh) so my kids don’t get stressed by exams and can focus on learning and not grades. It is further than HWS tho. I dread putting my girl on a 6am bus when she can literally walk to HWS.
I hesitate to share my dilemma here actually. I know if I post in SC thread everyone will tell me send to SC won’t regret! I’m sure it’s same here too. But I guess I’m just looking for some inputs?
Thanks -
Hi dimension,
ic, ic. Sorry to suggest that you were trying to find out about the PSLE range, very notti of me. heehee.
My experience, I go by gut feel. I visited the school and my gut like it and I decided to register in the school after I completed my PV. My DD1 will only go P1 next yr.
I visited a few schools during my PV application phase. I was able to visit the various schools because of interview, balloting for PV slots, etc. My DH’s way is to observe the students’ behaviour.
I was struggling with my decision between 2 schools and in the end I followed my gut.
Parents have different reasons for deciding. For example the distance factor, Parent A thinks that it’s alright for a child to wake up at 5am as long as he/she has 8 hrs of sleep. While Parent B might think that distance is an important factor. Ultimately it comes down to what’s important to you.
For HW, if you are not eligible for the phases before P2C, in the past yrs there are balloting <1km.
The same for SCGS, for the past yrs, balloting for P2C within 1km or 1-2km depending on demand.
So you will have to take into consideration your chances of being successful in the registration too.
I suggest try to have a quiet moment and think how do you feel about sending you DD to HW and then think how do you feel about sending her to SC. Although systematic and logical thinking is important, the gut is a great indicator too.
All the best. -
Hi dimension
My 2 cents worth of thought…
Have you step into these 2 schools and had a ‘feel’?
By taking notes from forum, it may complicates things.
Drop me a pm if you like to chat about HWS.
