i passed by the stall with the books and hesitate on taking as very thick and heavy. Then a mom with older kid in HW said must take both books. She mentioned definitely will use it but i didn't ask her for what purpose.

I contacted HW and was told the kids will not need to bring those 2 items to school.

If there's a need, then I liaise with the school again.

        Thanks.

I don't think it is mandatory or they will hand it to the child/parents, not leave it for pp to take. Not sure why the parent said that.

              Hi insider,

I know that you have 2 older kids and (5).

I plan to let her pack her own bag too after I show her how to x-ref to the time-table. But she's not very good with reading, so wlll supervise her packing till she's on track. I also asked her to order food from food court if we eat out, to get her into the mode. DD1 is pretty independently so I'm not so worried. She told me she made a fren during orientation day, way faster than me when I'm at her age πŸ˜„

DS is another story, but he's still young, so will see how he develops over the next 2 yrs.

Looking forward to reading your part 2 πŸ˜„

Not sure which Chinese teacher you were referring to, but I saw one younger one that seemed really strict.

shh....cannot mention name (tho am not sure whether this 'nice' teacher is still around). If disclose her name, may kena crowned 'child abuse' bad name...

Aiyah, your latter part will make sure parents will try to have her coach their kids. Hee, I was jus trying to bring across that the toughest teachers may be the nicest ones.

Never in my life would I imagine ds1 having a better Chinese score. I used to think her homework may be a tad strange, but I know teacher is just trying hard and will just work with her.

                    Hi insider,

nice feeling after reading your part 2.

I do wish I am as brave as you to let the child develop academically at his/her own pace. At a certain level I know a child has to be ready to excel in whatever field his/her heart leads. . It took my sis till secondary level to find her maths brain. But it's difficlt for me to tame the fear.

Looking forward to your part 3 πŸ˜„

                      Hi insider,

πŸ˜„ Thank you for being candid.

You are right, as a SAHM, my mind is constantly on my kids. The 2 biggest events for me this year were the P1 registration and orientation. When I was still working, I could forget about them for a while but now they are always on my radar. πŸ˜‚

My fren and I were having the same conversation on whether is it worth it to get stomach cramps (by the mummies) and be hated by our kids. One of her frens' kids told her that he hates his mother.

Of course we do not groom our kids that intensively. I'm not even thinking of GEP, the program scares me. Plus my kids do not exhibit any of the GEP traits.

In my logical mind, I know I only have my kids for a short period of time. I know there are many routes to and forms of success. I know it's important for them to find their passion and work on it. I know my job is not just on academic stuff, that non-academic stuff are more important. It's lucky that they have a younger sister. She helps to keep most of my demon at bay becos she drains my energy. It's also becos of bb that DD1 is going HW next yr.

I always joke, if I win a big 4D, I will stop worrying about the MOE system. If I'm more capable, I will have less fear too. I hope by the time bb is older, I will be an intelligent parent because by then, I will be the only one who can hold back the demon.

I re-read the instruction on what to bring on 1st day of school and on the topic of pencils, it is stated to bring at least 3 pencils.

So shall add one more in DD1's pencil case πŸ˜„

Since there's catered food for 1st 2 wks, so there's no need to give them $$$ right?
