      hi lionheart,

Yes, before I damage maths for him permanently, I decided to hands off. Better someone who knows the right way to teach than my ‘could potentially be wrong’ methods. 🙂

        Hi All

I'm a newbie here. I am quite sotong over what to prepare for DS for start of P1 next week. I still couldn't figure out which gate is which. Where to pick up DS from school etc. Can the kind mummies and daddies here share some information on what to expect for the first few days? DS still doesn't know how to count money yet and I'm worried that he will have problems with buying food after the 9 days of catered food is over. Looking at DS, I wonder if he will be able to pack his own bag, responsible for his own belongings etc. Although he has been to childcare for K1 & K2, he is still at times dependent on the teachers to remind him of his belongings and often left things behind in school. Gosh, I think I got to buy extra stationery in case he loses them.

Anyone has kids who are in Pro-teach (hongwen)? Can share what they do over there? I tried to access the pro-teach website but it's blocked.

hi Fairymoss, welcome to ksp, and to HWS!

okay, HWS should have sent you letter on what to pack for first few days in primary school. So follow that. on top of it, just bring a water bottle for your child (labelled, of course).

If you are picking up/dropping off, it's at the pedestrian gate closest to the zebra crossing. It's right opposite the block of hdb flats. I think it's called gate 6 (but I also sotong). I drive and also like to use that gate (rather than the main gate becos there is a queue of cars waiting to enter the main driveway).

Don't fret too much. if you are worried, for a while after that, pack some food for your kid - buy bread, make bento. If your child prefers to buy, I'm sure he will let you know NOT to make those. As for money, I usually give DS in small denominations - 1qty $1 coin, 1qty 50cent coins, 2qty 20cents coin for example. And I'll top up daily if balance is a bit low - don't want him to bring too much to school.

During the first few weeks after the 9 days, there will be a buddy to help your child with payment etc. After that, I think they are let out a bit earlier so don't have to jostle with the bigger kids (I'm not clear on this last bit, just hazarding a guess). Don't worry, all kids will learn to manage.

For packing of bag, it's good to involve him. Get him to do it and then you inspect. daily wise, not very much re-packing to do. Just remember the storybook.

Back then, the form teacher writes the Name on the Exercise Book. I am not sure if they still do it these days. Hence i wasn't aware that we need to write the name onto the exercise book until it is P2.

                      lionheart,

I had wanted DD1 to write the name herself. Guess I will wait awhile, see if I can see any teachers to ask during the first few days of school. 😄

He’s going to have to live with the name there - so I think I wrote DS name for him (not that my handwriting is nice). Haven’t touched his exercise books yet, maybe I should get around to it (make sure beautiful mood then maybe handwriting a bit nicer).

I cannot recall DS1’s exercise books, image just don’t come back; but I am fairly sure should be pen. Pencil can be rubbed off (by contact or on purpose) very easily.
