      Hi HW parents,

My son will be in P1 in 2015, registering is 2014 next year.

I live within 1k to HW.

Would like to get feedback on the school review and environment. Is the school good academically? Are the students well taught in values etc?

        Hi,

There is a high chance of balloting if you are under Phase 2C.

My dd1 is P2 this year.

HW focus both on academic and character building. But the P feels very strongly that character building is more important. He feels that as long as the kids have the right values, they will not go too wrong when they are older. PSLE results are not published, this was done before MOE made the move. So I have no idea about the academic level of the school.

I chose HW becos it's SAP. As of now I can see that dd1 has been influenced positively by the school. She has become more sensible. I find that her trs do teach. I like the trs whom I have met thru my PV stint and PTMs. I like the P too 😄

I have 3 kids so I like the pace of HW.

Since you live near to HW, you can try to find opportunities to observe the kids when they are released from school. Sometimes, there are exhibitions held in public places, you can also make your observations by attending them.

environment is ok. as sahm tan points out, they are focussed on character building. on academics,i think it is quite alright. my kids dont have very much homework (i hear this is teacher dependent). still in blissful existence but bracing for mid-upper p level next year.

and as a wise lady told me, we as parents know our kids best and we can influence if they do well or not. no point looking at top students in other years if we do not provide a conducive environment for our kids to study.

and yes, if under phase 2b, shoukd be ok. phase 2c, you will need all the luck you can get (even if under 1km)

Thanks for the replies hquek n sahm_tan.

should I start PV now? How does pv work; you will get it once apply?

I didn’t know that PSLE results are no longer disclosed. When did it change?

Actually my husband joined hokkien Huey Kuan two years back hoping to get into their affiliated schools through p2b. But seems like p2b is always in red. And recently SHHK put up a notice on pv scheme yet it is not guarantees that there will be recommendation letters for p2b.

I stay within 1k of hw n St. Andrews. I believe he should be a better choice.

My child’s new storybook bought from the recent book fair was also missing. Bought during recess time and he left on his class table. Told him to ask classmates and the book appeared after few days. You can also ask form teacher to ask the whole class.

So many cases, reported to tr?

If parents suspect stolen, should email to tr and cc to P.

dd1 told me her classroom is locked during recess. Is this done for other classes too? If not can suggest.
