Is it mandatory for HW students to know swimming and up to what level? My boy is 6yo and not started swimming lessons yet. Anyone has good swimming instructor to recommend?

went down to hws to buy school textbooks today. News.

          1. there are SOME school uniforms available. Size 6 for t-shirt is out (sorry, I bought the last 2), there are other sizes. If you need, perhaps can call up the bookshop to query.

          2. Heard from the current P6 crop that highest PSLE score this year in HWS is 260, 2nd highest 257.

          3. Heard that there will be another ‘exam’ when school starts to determine the classes kids go to. Now I know why P1 kids don’t have to bring any textbooks to school during the first days.

260 is decent mark. Hope that there are more 250s among the students.

Wow one full day of "exam"…guess they want to find out where the weaknesses are so that they can focus. Well, as many parents believe, preparation for PSLE starts in P1 and revision for PSLE starts in P6. When students understand the concepts it will be easier to tackle the questions. So foundation very important.

260 is okay, and I'm happy to note that 2nd wasn't too far behind - so at least there is some consistency and it's not a one shot wonder. Heard of another school where the differential between first and next was more than 20marks.

What's more impt should be how the cohort did and if this is a sustainable result (no point having one off shooting stars). This graduating batch is still part of those from the old facility. I'm very curious to see 2/3 years on, how the results will be - if the increased demand after they move into new school means a higher calibre of student population.

For the P1s, perhaps they take one week to suss out how the students are, I should be glad if they take the time to find out about the kids' strengths/weaknesses.

With the uniforms and sch books in place, it's so like final. A bit wondering what the next 6 years will be like..... 😉

I don't think that's stated. Not sure which type you are looking at. Around the vicinity are instructors at Jalan Besar public pool, or APS school (at Farrer Park). And then, there are private coaches...

Small-med range for P1 kids. My son is about 1.1-1.2m tall, quite thin; not the tua chiak type. The next step up, size 8 looks very much bigger.

Do they have size 4? I think your son might be about the same build as my dd or maybe slightly bigger size than her.

They have to bring colour pencils to school - I'm now wondering what type to buy...12 colours, 24 colours....I think I very free. 😛
