      hi SAHM_TAN & hquek,

agree with u gals that it’s the students who determine what kind of school it is…

so far HWS is our first choice of school…
unless DH got last minute changes…

btw, is it a lot of homework in P1 ??
      daily or weekly homework ??
it’s very stressful to both parents n kids if P1 already overload with homework…

      argh…scary…

        hi my62202,

Homework depends on the teacher. I understand in other P1 classes, they have homework to bring home. Thus far, my kid's homework is mainly reading (chinese textbook), a bit of art (to color). Quite relax really. But then recently they have show & tell - so I got to prepare with him.

Kindly note, in P1, they seem to be very finicky. DS had to redo portions of his maths work becos he never use ruler to draw straight line. Not quite sure why they are so focused on that - but in Rome, I'm going to do as Rome does. 😉

It's $245 per month. Once you have confirmed a place in HW, call proteach to enquire about the vacancy. You are required to pay one month deposit to reserve a place.

          Thanks WorkingMommy! 😄

Perhaps age catching up and i am gettin grumpy lately.. 🙂

2 cents worth of thought here..

Lately, i kept receiving PM from potential HWS parents or alrdy-parents whom are concerned about PSLE results in HWS. i heard many use means to try find it; Some fabricated numbers for/against HWS.

For the benefits for HWS parents or Wannabe, the School principal shared T-scores with PSG leaders and activists. It is not a trade secret actually. Maybe some see this as a must.., but is it necessary? Does it make a difference if we know the T-score?

As i see it and the P has similar thoughts; Lets keep bad competition away from students. Allow our student try their best and achieve their potential using their own abilities with no expense in health and happiness.

            In order to have that happen, imho School has to avoid giving unnecessary pressure to students and teachers. While parents and other stakeholders give love, resource and thoughts to value-add the process;

I am an old school.. Hope this clarify why i am not responsive whenever it comes to any queries related to HWS PSLE results....

For those who can't sleep without knowing the T-score....Be assured.. the T-Score is A++ against schools of similar social-economic background.

            🙂

              Hi, i m new here...

i'm actually a SAHM staying in Toa Payoh...
as i'm not local and DH's old school no longer around..
so no matter which school we apply sure in phase 2C...

PCPS in TPY definitely difficult to get in...
so DH is thinking of HWS coz of its good reputation...
most likely will be registering for PV come this Apr...
btw, my DS is born in 2006, register 2012 for P1 in 2013...

after reading the whole thread...realised that 2010 top score was 260...
              sounds good to me...how abt 2009 n 2008 ??

also all the mummies here seems very united and very concerned...
              i likey...
and lionheart is PSG from HWS ??
u r very concerned and really listened to us parents...
              gambatte...

HWS seems to focus more on chinese...
i like it coz as a chinese, we shouldn't forget our root...
but what abt english ?? it's equally important too...

btw, any school bus to TPY ??
              i am from PSG.

PV.. please register early. I have helped 20+ parents registered since Dec. .. and i believe many go direct to school to sign up PV.. so the number available may be very few now.. Do try to close this quickly.

I dun think any School bus problem to TPY. i knew a few students stayed in TPY.

Don't worry too much.. Very caring team leads the program, your son is in good hands. 🙂

Is anyone attending the PSG dinner on 11-Mar? Children not allowed.

                  Have you signed up?

Around 28 parents whom signed up as parent leaders during orientation are invited... so far 11 has RSVP.

For others, if you have a heart to make HWS better. .drop me a PM and i will approach the organizer to include you in the list. Don't worry about the commitment involved, importantly it is the process in contributing to the success of our children.

P1 is a breeze.. not much homework. The problem for homework only surfaced in P5. My elder son has to work to late to get them completed... but to be fair.. he has to stay back for CCA/Stretch for 5 days a week, also got CCA outside his school time.. not enough time to finish in the Day. Typical Singaporean kid problem. 😞

                      hi lionheart,

Thanks for all the good info; and understand your ‘frustration’ (?) at those never ending queries on psle. For me, that was an initial consideration when deciding on school, I won’t know what the inner workings are like then (well, hws thread wasn’t that active mah) and this is one of the more measurable qualities.

That said, I am fully cognizant that past scores are not indicative of present or future results; and for MY own kids, past psle would definitely not be indicative.

i have volunteered in 2 schools before i sent my son to HWS via 2C. i thought the same like you too. PSLE score + School Program were major considerations when deciding the school, HWS wasn't in my radar then as their PSLE was not fantastic and also very little details were make available to public. I only learnt about HWS just by parking near the old school for a few weeks, observing student in recess and class. It changed my decision.

LOL. Many good primary schools are hidden in the woods. we just didn't get to know them.
