Wow. :salute: So, you have put in the hours! So you should be in a good position to share about the school. How do you find the teachers, programs?
I have a friend who is all praise about the school. -

can't really tell that much from what I did as PV. It was ok I guess, although I thought the way the NAPHA run was conducted was a bit of a mess. In the big scheme of things, not a really big deal I suppose. We shall see

Hi, I have enrolled my girl in FMPS as well.. we are within the 1 km therefore most likely we have been accepeted by the school intake... I am new to the Kiasu parents as well as the Parents' Networking Groups since my daughter is just going to Pri One next year but I think this is a very good network for the parents to catch up the school system...
Heard the school provide after school care and was told the teachers there mostly are quite patience and caring. -
uicbg,
I gathered you enrolled under phase 2C - the balloting is for 1-2km, so , you should have secured a place. Congrats.
I have heard about the after school care too, but i can’t seems to find information on it. do you know if it’s in the school premise?
My friend has a boy at Fairfield P3 - she shared the same feedback about the teachers - they do take care of students with different performance. The really weak ones are given extra tuitions, and the really good ones are banded into 2 top classes at P3 for more intensive hot-housing… The rest of the kids are happy and thriving along with the school currculums, not that much pressure, i hear.
I am quite heartend to know that this friend’s kid, who came from a totally no-chinese background but still managed to pass Chinese reasonably well - says a lot about the teachers. -
Hi Curiousl-ks,
Thank you. Yes, we should have secured the seat there. Actually I was pondering between Henry Park and Fairfield but should I have tried Henry Park, I would be required gone for the balloting and therefore, most of my frens encouraged me to try Fairfield.
I got the information from a neighbour last sunday when I bumped to her. She shared with me that her son is in Pri 3 this year and there is an after school care within the school compound. She said it cost abt SGD 350 - 400 ++ a month.
My neighbour shared the students would be accessed for higher MT when they are in Pri 2. And the result for Chinese in the school PSLE is lower result than their preliminary, indicating to me that the chinese may be a little lower standard. I am not sure on that.
She feels the child should be able to handle math & english and for chinese, can consider to send for enrichment when they are in Pri 2.
My fren quotes Pri One & Two are considered HoneyMoon period whereas the stress and homework starts to flow in when come to Pri 3.
regards,

Actually, the Chinese performance for 2007 and 2006 are higher than National average. Only dipped in 2008...

Hi Parents,
Could you all share about your experience of abacus learning your children have if any ? Any benefits in the abacus learning that help them in their primary school acadamic progress?
Thanks,

My girl is on Kumon for Maths. We didn’t put her on Abacus - but my sister’s kids did Abacus - it helps mental calculation i suppored.
I chose Kumon cos i thought it’s progressive self learning - good for instilling discipline and sense of responsibility. My girl now starting to demonstrate good mental calculation - ahead of her older cousins…
I think whichever is good to stimulate the brain - but do not mix different methods as kids do get confused - tis an advice from an educator,
