Just wondering how is life for P1 pupils in SPS? What about the teacher? I went for registration. One tall lady spoke to me and knew a lot about the school. At first I thought she was the vice-principal but later turns out she teaches P1. I am impressed with the service so far. Anyone has anything to add? -

So far the experience in school has been good, my girl loves school, loves her teachers. But as her teacher is a rather experienced teacher, she gets called off for projects quite often. In fact, she went off for 3 months project with another school. Not sure what that was, but we were told beforehand and the new relief teacher was ok too. At times, the teacher comes back to sit in with the class to monitor how the new relief teacher is teaching and in my daughter's words \"because Mrs XXX misses us.\"
School work is manageable, just that at crazy times we get up to 4 worksheets per night. But that's not too often. Spelling and ε¬ε starts early. Standard I think almost same across the island. They use the same textbooks afterall.
And, they actually use current pop music to teach PE!! Haha, i got a shock when my girl came back dancing to \"baby baby baby oh ....\" Whatever happened to Mary had a little Lamb?? Then again, the generation is different from us, and it seems to hold their attention.
No ECA for now, compared to my frens' kids who have ECA like gym, wushu, guzheng in P1. I am glad for I prefer them to be less taxing in lower Primary.
Quite a lot of activities for parents to participate, they organize parents seminars with a nominal charge like $2 on various topics of workshops ranging from character building, emotional bonding with your child, how to teach sexuality education to your kids and academic based ones. So far till date, i received 3 such notifications of workshops.
In the past months, my girl went on 3 field trips. Each time they ask for volunteers to assist the teachers. Should go if you have time, good way to know their classmates and to know the teacher better.
And oh! Dunno if I am mountain tortise or what, but their report book is leather bounded. Very classy hahaha.... and the reports are very detailed. Computerised in the sense you know from the way it is written that there is a format. BUt according to the teacher, the school has a software for that and the teacher have to key in traits (abit like MCQ) of the individual child for the software to churn out the report.

I thought their report book was impressive too. I like that its very detailed. I am glad my son did quite alright, made me proud. -

Oh!!! So you are Tyler's mummy! Eh...He was the 'hot' topic in my household for a while few months back. My girl \"got\" a box of staplers from your son. At first we thought he given it to her cos that's what my girl said. Then I realised that she asked it from him as he had 4 boxes and my girl got fed up with someone else whom kept asking her for them...so she got \"smart\" and decided to use Tyler's staplers to give to that someone instead. I made her return them eventually when I found out.

My girl will be P1 next year. Understand the school will temporary located at Holding Site at Sembawang. Can check is most of yours using school bus to send the kids over? -

Me back to contribute... Now we are finally settling into the routine of Pri school. My girl is in 1D, anyone else?? We like her form teacher, speaks calmly and is always full of praises for children. Teachers makes a difference! She is even enjoying her Chinese class which is amazing to me. They had separate the class into 2 groups, those weaker ones had english translation to assist them to learn, they sing songs to learn hanyu pinyin etc which i thot was great.
Only thing is that they started spelling and tingxie 3 weeks into school and send us newbie P1 parents into a frenzy.
So far, she had enjoyed school and is happy. I like it that the school has various programs for parents including the upcoming talks on 26th Feb on how to teach your child, the previous grandparents' day. We seen the new principal on few occasions, he is always smiley. My girl says he is like a kind ah-gong (grandfather)
I am glad that it all turned out well esp when SPS was not our choice originally. Beginning to think that perhaps really, God had other plans for me when we couldnt get into Greenwood.

For parents with kids in SPS, any idea how they allocate the P1 class?
SPS was not our 1st choice either...Greenwood was.
