For one, you need to ask yourself why you want to send your kid here. If as PV you get to experience and see things differently, won't that be a good thing? If you live nearby, then it is a way to get more assured of a place.I have submitted my pv to Rivervale Primary. After seeing so many -ve comments mk me have doubt.

Fact is that Principals and teachers come and go, and so do students and parents. In a system, it is the part played by everyone that makes the difference. It is also a sad fact that bad news travel faster than good news. I have faith though, and will continue to 'contribute' in whatever ways I can to help raise standards for the school and for the benefit of my own kids. -

May be that explains why so many kids go for tuitions as parents contribute in the most direct way to help raise the standards of their kids.....

From the posted comments, some of the issues are also faced in mid-primary. Parents are frustrated. Like with worksheets not marked for a term, maths and science lessons mainly copying of model answers from the white board, wrong concept for maths and science can be taught in class etc.
What does the children learn by copying model answers? If at mid primary, the foundation of maths and science were not properly taught, the impact will have when they are in upper primary. I wonder whether such teachers are equipped with the knowledge to teach? If the teacher has been teaching maths and science all these years, isn’t she knows the syllabus by finger tips? Feedback has been make known to the school, meeting with parents has also been done. Assistant leader is aware of issues lying around and ask parents to give them time to change. A year from now, the teacher is still her same "old self". Parents give up. Worried parents have to power their own knowledge to teach their own kids if not, then send them to tuition centre.
There are bound to be "teachers" issues in many schools. But there are school leaders who will seriously look into such issues and actions are dealt with the "problematic" teachers. In this school, what kind of actions have so far been dealt with the "problematic" teachers? If actions are taken, then the "black-sheep" will not have repeat his or her actions years after years! -

Ya lor. There is a saying by Lao Tze \"不尚贤,使民不争“ - translated to mean \"If you over-esteem talented individuals, people will become overly competitive\". Such is the phenomenon in Singapore - we are so envious and covert 'talents'
(just in case you misunderstood me, I mean 'contribute' as in providing feedback and joining parents support group, not tuitions har..

:scared: \"years after years\"? Like how many years has this been going on to be more precise? Some say 'not like this in the past'?

Seems like there are 'customer service' issues that need to be dealt with here. Has the school ever held any parent forum? Maybe the school can consider inviting parents in groups to provide feedback, starting with the P5s (P6 too late liao...must start to engage tutors
) , then working each level down to the P2s. P1 parents still fresh and need time to identify any major issues

Just read another thread and find this relevant so post here:

只要孩子信任老师,对老师不存敌意,成绩绝对不会往后退,只会越战越勇,到了小六会考,肯定能信心满满地走进考场。 -

School took some actions year ago, asked the kids in assembly to put up their hands if their parents have complaint against the school. Kids were reminded not to complain teachers to their parents at home when they were back in the classroom. -

Serious?! I never heard this from DS. In any case, that's a rather queer way of asking for feedback. More like curbing them.concern2:
